Slaving away!
Paul and I took the kids out front yesterday and spent about two hours in the sun, pulling weeds. I mentioned earlier that our yard looks like total hell – it didn’t get watered the whole time we were gone on vacation, and it had an explosion of weeds come up during that time, too. The house next door to us and the one on the other side of it are vacant (please buy one and become my neighbor!) and their lawns are brown and weedy. And ours looks almost as bad! Most of our neighbors have lush, green lawns, so we really look like the ghetto house on the block. Hate it! So. We spent a couple of hours on hands and knees, digging out dandelions. Here’s Paul taking a break in the “shade!”
While we were outside, the kids drew with chalk, rode their scooters and trikes up and down the sidewalk, and generally just enjoyed being out in the sunshine. We play in the backyard all the time, but this was the first time we’d spent any measurable amount of time out front, playing. Paul is SO overprotective of our kids, but they’re finally getting to an age where they can have a small amount of freedom – as in, riding their trike to the end of the (dead end) street, then turning around and coming back, while we’re right there watching them!
I was a responsible mommy and put hats and sunscreen on all the kids. I even wore a hat myself! However, my sunscreen must have…worn off, or something – my shoulders are burned ALL TO HELL, man. I was so pleased with myself for not getting completely sunburned at the pool party we went to on Friday – I made up for it on Saturday, though! Wahhh!
And last night, Paul and I went to Home Depot with the kids and bought Revive for the lawn. And a new rake. And! A whole bunch of annuals for me to plant in the pots on my porch. Whee! We’re upping our curb appeal, a little at a time.
