Outdoor Gear?

I bought bathrobes for the three little girls for Christmas, and I’m telling you, there was more squealing over those gifts than nearly all the other ones. Isn’t that silly? They’ve wanted bathrobes FOREVER and I keep blowing off their wishes, because, well…bathrobes are usually sort of pricey, especially when you’re buying three of them. I found such splendid deals at Target, though, that they got their robes. They have BARELY TAKEN THEM OFF since yesterday. Here are Nik and Lexi in the backyard today, playing in the snow in their new purple sequinned boots, bathrobes, and animal hats. Silly, fabulous girls. I love them so much. Also, I’m having bathrobe envy. I don’t even have a robe! At least I have mah Snuggie.

Ready for Christmas, complete with snow!

We’re just doin’ our thing over here. The kids are mostly over being sick, except for Lexi, who still looks like she got run over by a truck. I haaaaate it when the kids are sick. They just get so miserable, and it hurts my heart to see them that way! Thought I’d share a few pictures. Paul and I got a real tree this year, for the first time ever. I love my artificial tree, but this year Paul wanted to get a real one. He said he had such great memories of running around the Christmas tree lot with his brother Jon, playing tag and hiding from their parents. So, we scouted out a nearby tree lot and headed over there one night to build some memories with our own kiddos. Well. We got a nice little tree, but we froze our ASSES off. The kids spent the whole time inside the jumpy house, trying to maintain their body temperature before they got frostbite. On the way home, Paul said, “I guess when I was remembering my childhood, I forgot about the fact that I grew up in southern California.” Uh, yeah, babe. Colorado Christmases are definitely more brisk! Here is our little tree. I put the lights on, but the kids did 100% of the decorating. I love it.

I’ll have to remember to zoom in and get a picture of my newest, most favorite ornament. When we were in South Dakota last summer, we stopped at a Christmas store and I picked up a few ornaments to commemorate our vacation – Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Reptile Gardens…plus a KISS ornament of Gene Simmons that I just couldn’t resist!

Paul’s working nights this week, while his bridge construction project begins, which means he’s been home during the day a little bit. I love it! He and the kids put together a gingerbread house the other day, and it’s good that I got a few pictures…Pablo has nearly wiped it out, bite-by-bite. Gotta love a sugar high!

We had a nice, big snowstorm last night and throughout today, which dumped about a foot of snow on us. Perfect day to sit inside the warm house, making Chex Mix and cutting out paper snowflakes. My little pup enjoyed tunneling around the backyard! Here she is heading back inside – she needs a little sweater, poor thing.

During our snowy day, I headed out with my shovel to make a little path to the mailbox, and I found a present on the porch for Miss Kayley. Her darling friend Carissa dropped off a little Christmas cheer, but we didn’t realize it until it had been snowed upon for hours and hours. I brought it inside and the kids asked, “Why do you have a gift bag full of snow?” Luckily, the goodies within dried right out!

Only a few days left, and the kids are soooooo excited. My sissie was supposed to come for Christmas, but it just didn’t work out. We’re so bummed about it, but I think she’s even sadder than we are. Love you, sissie! We’ll have to have a spring break sister weekend, for sure. If I don’t update again before Christmas, enjoy the holiday!

365 – Snow Week!

I’m sure you’re wondering if I went crazy and had to be locked up, after all those days in the house with my kids. But, no. They went back to school last Thursday. And they were just as excited to get out of the house as I was to get them to school! Here they are, brushing their teeth before we scooted out the door.

But even though we headed back to school, the weather still pretty much sucked. We’re kind of sick of snow. I mean, I get it. It’s winter. It’s Colorado. It snows here. Still, we’re over it.

Saturday night, we got lots and LOTS of snow, and it was super icy. Kayley headed out to babysit, and within about 4 minutes of the family picking her up, she texted me to say they’d been in a fender bender. Someone slid right into them! We HAD to get out of the house with our cooped-up kiddos, though, so we went to McDonald’s – and slid all the way there, too. Scary. Thank God for 4WD. Here are two of my monkeys, loving on each other at the completely deserted McD’s playland.

Sunday, we headed out to church, and left Daddy home to shovel. When we got back home, we had a little friend waiting for us near the edge of the driveway…

So cute! I love his mohawk. It actually warmed up nicely today, and melted our snowman’s head right off. We found the shades and carrot just lying in the driveway this afternoon; awww. However, we’re in the middle of another snowstorm, and I’ll be surprised if they don’t call another snow day tomorrow!

Breakfast at McDonald’s.

Ohhh, snow days. They’re fun for awhile, but eventually, we just need to get OUT and run a little! Paul escaped the Casa de Chaos this morning to go to work, and as he stepped out the front door, he turned back to me and said, “Why don’t you get these kids over to McDonald’s for a little while?” Hmmm. I don’t know why BREAKFAST at McD’s never occurred to me. I tend to avoid lunch at indoor playgrounds on snow days, because it’s easier for me to deal with insane, screaming children when I’ve given birth to them. And even at breakfast time, I was a little iffy about hitting Mickey D’s, but I was pleasantly surprised to find the place practically deserted. We all ate our hot cakes in peace, and the kids ran off some steam for a solid hour before the lunch crowd started to pour in. Pablo was feeling extra cuddly, for some reason, and I ate up all of that snuggletime. My little love bug. Oh, and if you’d heard him say, “Dat bafroom is too isgusting for me,” you would have died from the cuteness. For reals. (It was kind of disgusting.)

Yay for McDonald’s. And yay for school tomorrow! Yippee!

Remember how excited I was to track back on?

Yeah, that was last week at this time. Oh, the memories – such good, happy, quiet days they were. And now, here we are, back at home again, bickering and fighting and turning construction paper into confetti faster than you can say, “Snow Day.” The bitter cold has kept us housebound. Not just any old bitter cold, either. Cold as a witch’s titty cold. We’re supposed to see 23 degrees below zero tonight. Thursday’s forecasted 35 is going to feel downright tropical.

The kids are missing school and their friends, but they’re keeping me on my toes. Today, I didn’t get to sit on my sofa at all, because every last cushion was used to create a fort or a horse to ride on. The kids made their own lunches, and they set up a picnic right in the kitchen. Pablo impressed the heck out of me, fetching all the ingredients to make his very own bologna, cheese, and strawberry jelly sandwich. *bleah!* Hey, if he’ll eat it, I don’t care. Here are my monkeys, chillin’ in the kitchen today:

Oh, I hope I can access my extra patience tomorrow! We’re all sort of struggling to be kind with one another, while everyone is a little bored, and a little disappointed about the things they’re missing out on. Maybe we’ll shoot for a spa day tomorrow, and do everyone’s nails. Think that’ll keep ‘em happy?

Snow Ice Cream! My friend Cindy mentioned on Facebook that she and her family took advantage of the massive snow totals in Atlanta (well, massive for Atlanta!) and made snow ice cream. She got the recipe from Blooming on Bainbridge. It looked super easy, so we decided to whip up some of our own. Literally 5 minutes later, we were around the table, stuffing snow into our faces. Ha! It was super good! I can’t believe I’ve lived all my life in Colorado, and never had snow ice cream. I remember reading about it in the Little House on the Prairie books, but I never knew anyone who actually MADE it! Try it yourself! My kiddos had a ball making and eating it!

Snow day! I just love my husband, it’s like he’s 2 different people put together in one of those kids’ puzzles. His bottom half and top half don’t match up!
