Project 365 – Photo A Day

I actually started a new blog on WordPress, intending to do Project 365 on it. I guess I thought I shouldn’t “clutter up” my regular blog with photos, but then I realized, I haven’t been writing enough to clutter anything up, so I think I’m going to move it all here. So, yeah. Expect to see some pictures in a minute. Pictures of fabulous, amazing, FASCINATING things – little snippets of my glamorous life.

Things that are weird to me.

The fact that currently, my blog is the number one result on Google for “Ron Jeremy’s Weiner.”

(It’s because of this post.)

10 Years Blogging

I totally meant to post this on my ACTUAL blog birthday, which was April 24th. I’ve been having computer problems for the past couple of weeks, though, so it sort of got pushed aside. But no more! We’re going to take a brief look back in time… here is the history of LALAGIRL, which got started on these here internets way back in the year two-thousand…

Now, I’ve been asked several times why my archives only go back five years. Here’s the story on that. When I started writing, I was married to Kayley’s dad. A lot of my posts were about him, and about our lives together. When we were going through our divorce, and for awhile afterward as well, we weren’t exactly chummy. Nowadays, things are fine between the two of us, but I hate to stir up bad memories – it seemed only fitting to remove the archives from those times.

Then, after I gave birth to Pablo and Mallory, I blogged a lot. And I even had a separate blog JUST for them, with lots of blog entries about their milestones and daily cuteness, and LOTS of pictures. And then, someone stole all the content from my blog, and started their own fake blog, pretending to be pregnant with twins. It’s still there, although most of the pictures are gone – I’m sure you’ll recognize my writing style, and if you click through a few pages, you’ll see a picture of me, pregnant with Pablo and Mallory. This happened in 2004, and I remember being SO PISSED that Blogger.com and Blogspot.com refused to take the blog down, even though it was so clearly a fabrication of my own blog. Their exact words to me: “We don’t monitor content. Take it up with the blog owner.” THANKS. Anyway. THAT whole thing led to me setting up my blog in pMachine, and keeping it strictly locked down and password protected. So none of those archives are online either – I actually still have the pMachine database sitting on my server, but I can’t remember my password to get into it. Ha! If anyone has suggestions for me on how to get into it, export it, and then import it here, I’m all ears.

So. Other than all of THAT stuff, it’s all here. And it’s gone through some changes over the years! Newer readers may not realize I haven’t ALWAYS had my cartoon girl in the header. Here’s how things have evolved…(warning: plethora of images after the jump!)

Pardon me while I fix some shit.

I have about 37 blog posts to write, but my computer died. I’m using my laptop, but I don’t have access to a bunch of stuff I need at the moment, which is giving me an AWESOME excuse for blowing things off.

Why My Blog is Boring.

I have nothing to write about. Here’s why.

  1. My husband doesn’t like me sharing our bidness.
  2. I’ve been burned about 2,437 times because something I wrote here was misconstrued or taken ridiculously out of context.
  3. It freaks me out knowing that people spend hours going through my archives, after landing here from searches for “kids in the bathtub.”
  4. After writing here for ten years, most of you pretty much know exactly who and what I’m writing about, even if I try to be vague or use catchy nicknames. Booooo.
  5. I used to be able to count on one hand the number of folks I know in real life who read my blog. That number has increased exponentially since I friended half my neighborhood on Facebook.
  6. There’s just not that much to say about sitting on my ass at home with four little kids. Guess what: we made pizza! We went to the park! We went to Tokyo Joes! We got out the Play-Doh! We painted our toenails! We tipped over every piece of furniture in the living room searching for lost quarters! We snuck into sissie’s room and ate her Easter candy and Silly String’d her Alice in Wonderland poster! We colored with Sharpies on the coffee table! We drove Mommy to drink! Yay! Lather, rinse, repeat.
  7. You’re probably well aware that it snows in Colorado during the springtime, and that the weather patterns here are a little bit on the ridiculous side. I’ve drilled that into you, right? Yes? Okay, we’re good. Did I mention it’s snowing today? No? But you could have guessed that, based on the fact that it’s April and I’ve updated my blog? Okay.
  8. I think I’ve exhausted the topic of INSANE TEENAGERS. This feels like a horse I’ve beaten to death over and over. It’s like a zombie horse now. A zombie horse wearing skinny jeans, rolling its eyes at me, with a sparkly purple bow in its mane.
  9. My kids have been off track from school and home with me for a week and a half now, and we still have WEEKS yet to go. They’re sucking up my brain cells with their Miley Cyrus songs and unending Spongebob episodes and endless bickering. I understand what the Grinch was going through, when he bitched about the noise, noise, noise, NOISE! They were once my muses, but now they’re siphoning away all my inspiration.

Interesting content scheduled to return soon. I hope.

New and Shiny!

Hey! Lookie here. It’s my site, all spiffy and redesigned to celebrate 10 years of blogging. Still not sure what to do for my blogiversary on April 24th – maybe it’ll involve cupcakes!

Check it out, there are a couple of new features here. One is the LaLaGirl Flashback feature. I posted pictures of the kids on Facebook recently, from when they were wee, small little twin babies and toddlers – it was so popular among my friends and family that I was inspired to make a “back in the day” feature here as well. Glance up to the top of the main page, and you’ll see featured posts from the archives here. It’s been fun for me to go back and remember when we had four kids in diapers. Time flies!

The other big change is the addition of the VLOG. Video posts are going to become a regular feature here, although I really, truly hate the word vlog. It’s such an ugly sounding word, and it doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue. If you have any ideas for what else I could call this feature, I’d love to hear them. For now, take a look at the Featured Video – it’s me addressing a question that’s been asked of me time and time again: do I think Pablo was born with autism, or developed it because of a vaccination. I’d love to get your feedback on that! I was MORTIFIED to realize how often I say “y’know” while I’m speaking. It’s embarrassing!! Guess I know what I need to work on, there.

I’d just like to say THANK YOU for coming here and reading – you and your comments have been a lifeline for me over the years, a sounding board, a source of advice and compassion and you often crack me the hell up in your comments. If you miss the typical blog layout, you can always click the BLOG link up there in the menu bar, and all the blog posts will be compiled in one nice, neat page, just like before. Sooooo…thanks for being here!

I’m on your Kindle!

Did you see how I resisted the urge to write that title in LOLspeak? That could have totally gone another way, but I decided against it.

Look! You can now subscribe to LaLaGirl – Twinfinite Chaos – yes, this very blog – on your Amazon Kindle! Right here! I don’t have a Kindle of my very own, although I long for one. If you have one, let me know how it looks on there!
