Sushi and Zombieland – GREAT Date Night!

Last night, Paul and I headed out of here for a bit, to take in a little Tokyo Joes and a movie. We saw Zombieland, which I can only describe as being the best movie of all time. At least, that’s how I feel about it for now. I just thought it would be a funny, gross movie about zombies. And, it was! But it was so much more! Who knew a zombie movie could also be a feel-good love story about finding true family and appreciating life? It’s awesome! Best movie ever. For reals. Go see it!

The trailer is after the jump, because it wonkies up my blog template:

Freedom! Well, not so much.

So, yeah, last week, my husband and I went out together not once, but TWICE! I’m trying to think of when this has happened before, and I think it was around 2003. My MIL stayed a few days with us so I could get a few things done around the house. I’ve already mentioned the STAGGERING pile of boxes in my room full of baby clothes I need to tag for the sale. I also needed to clean Kayley’s room and closet, an undertaking which I was planning to set aside an entire day for. Unfortunately, the kids were sick last week, and we ended up losing tons and tons of sleep. Paul and I took turns getting up with Pablo every night for about four nights in a row. Because of this, I spent most of the time that I would have been working on my domestic slavery doing other things, like napping and driving to the store to buy more Delsym.

Anyway. We DID manage to have a couple of nights out away from the monkeys! I already told you about our date night at The Improv. On Saturday, we went to Paul’s niece’s house for a little housewarming party. She and her boyfriend just bought their first home, and it’s darling. The house they bought was in foreclosure, and they got a deal so sweet, it almost makes my teeth hurt. Good for them! They had a little get-together on Saturday afternoon, and we spent some time over there, mostly just chatting with Paul’s brother and his wife.

After that, we met up with Amy & Chris and Mike at Hooters and watched the fights. I’m so not into stuff like that, but it really wasn’t too bad. It was sort of entertaining in that car wreck sort of way. Seeing a guy rolling around on a mat with another guy, slippin’ and a slidin’ because of all the BLOOD gushing out of the one guy’s head, well – that’s entertainment right there, people. And it was super to see my Amygirl right before her birthday – we haven’t had a lot of hangout time lately! We were supposed to head over to another bar on the other side of the earth after the fights were over, but I pussed out and had to text Amy and tell her we weren’t going to make it. Such a no-hang, right? Hey, I’m OLD, people! Too old to party like a rock star after being up with a sick kid like that.

On Sunday, we went to my parents’ house for dinner to celebrate the girls’ birthdays, so they got even MORE presents. My house is now The Land of Polly Pockets. Between Christmas, birthday, and Kayley’s closet purge, it’s All Polly All The Time. My mom made her famous spaghetti and meatballs along with a big lasagna. I’m not a fan of spaghetti, and Paul doesn’t like lasagna, so it was perfect. Even better was the bottle of Chianti! It was SO nice hanging out over there. It was the first time ever that we’ve spent time at my parents’ house and Paul just RELAXED and didn’t freak out about the kids every five seconds. Seemed like everybody had a nice time. Yay.

And then Monday, Paul and Kayley were off for MLK day, so we did stuff around the house. THAT was the day I took advantage of my MIL being here and worked on K’s closet. It’s UNBELIEVABLE to me just how much crap that child had stuffed in there!! It took the two of us almost six hours to get it all cleaned out and organized. Kayley and I threw out two big trash bags of crap. And she gave two big trash bags full of toys to the girls! It looks sooooo much better in there, and Kayley can’t believe how much room she has now. I took some after pictures and she said, “Take a picture of the floor – I could lay down in there!”
