Back to school, finally!

What I’ve Heard in my Home Since December 16th:

  • Justin Bieber songs, on repeat.
  • The Mario theme.
  • “Mooooooooom, I’m hungry! I don’t WANT an apple or a banana or a string cheese!”
  • Mallory’s heeled boots, as she runs through the house constantly.
  • “You are such a brat! I’m never playing with you again!”
  • Selena Gomez songs, on repeat.
  • The Angry Birds theme.
  • The “beep-beep-beep” of the back door, every time it opens or closes. Which is constantly.
  • “How many more days until our birthday?”
  • Evil giggling, indicating sneakiness.
  • “You never play what I want to play! It’s not fair that we always play what YOU want to play!”
  • “Mooooooom, when can I have a turn on the computer?”
  • “I’m telling!”
  • Pablo’s ever present, “Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah! Hi-yo, hi-yo, hi-yo!”
  • Constant yelling. Nobody ever TALKS here, they just yell.
  • “Coming up next, on Disney Channel…” ::insert annoying clip of annoying show::
  • Three little girls, singing The Lazy Song over and over and over and over and over.
  • “Mind your own business!”
  • “She hit me back!
  • “When do we go back to school; I’m so bored! There’s nothing to do here!”
  • What I’m Hearing in My Home, Right Now:

  • The ticking of two different clocks, in separate rooms.
  • The hum of the refrigerator.
  • Cali snoring.
  • The passing bell at the high school down the street.

Bliss. I sort of want to go turn the stereo on, and listen to music THAT I ENJOY, but I think I need to bask in the silence for awhile longer.

TRACK ON, Baby!

I do adore those delightful little children of mine, but COME THE F— ON, MAN. Five weeks at home? In the winter? With Christmas thrown in there? And endless illnesses? Come on, man. That’s just messed up. Or is it me? Am I messed up? Time and time again, I keep running into mommy friends of mine who are all, “Awww, we’re bummed that it’s time to go back to school. We’ve been having SO MUCH FUN!” Really? ‘Cause I have not been having so much fun. Is it the logistics of having five children? Do I need to start setting up more playdates? At other people’s houses? I have been suffering, and so have my children. They’ve been at each other’s throats. They’ve been up my crack 24/7, telling me how bored they are. We have NOT BEEN HAVING FUN.

I mean, it hasn’t been ALL bad. We’ve had several park outings. We’ve watched a thousand movies. The girls had their birthday. I met up with lots of said mommy friends at Casa Bonita last week and we had a BLAST. Sopapillas for the win! But we’ve also had lots and lots of trying moments, and I was SO pleased that school started back up today, you should have seen me. I was practically dancing around the kitchen this morning, packing lunches. And even the KIDS were happy! Pablo got a group hug from about five little girls in his class. (Yeah, he’s a playa.) He walked into school with a huge grin on his face, showing off his new coat and lunchbox to everyone. And the little girls skipped up the sidewalk when I dropped them off, barely glancing back. WE ARE ALL HAPPY TO BE BACK AT SCHOOL. Don’t judge.

Anyway. My 365 picture today is from the lunch I had out today with my husband, and NO children. Look at all that sushi, man. It was ridonk.

I was a happy chick today.

Good morning, glory.

Yay! My site is back. Did you happen to visit over the weekend, and wonder why the posts were all from mid-2008? It was like stepping into a time machine for a minute, there. My host was doing a server migration and the database it kept pulling up was from … well, 2008, I guess. Seems like it’s all fixed now, though.

How was your weekend? Mine was splendid. We seem to have settled into a routine of actually RELAXING on the weekend, which is spectacular, as far as I’m concerned. Lately, our children have been REALLY into watching movies, which you probably suspected when you saw Nikki and Lexi’s birthday cake, right? This weekend, we watched Ace Ventura 1 and 2. I barely remembered these movies – I think Kayley was either a small baby or maybe not even born yet when they came out. And watching my children watch the movies made me finally realize that Jim Carrey’s audience must be small children. I’ve always found him to be a little grating, but my kids think he’s a genius, especially when he talks through his ass. Paul and I get such a kick out of watching the kids crack up when they watch movies – and Lexi nearly fell off the sofa laughing at Ace Ventura. It was awesome.

The rest of the weekend was uneventful, apparently, because I can’t remember much of it. I seem to remember napping leisurely on the couch with Paul at one point. Kayley and I took the little girls to a birthday party yesterday at a gymnastics place, and they really loved it. I’d like to put them in gymnastics, but I’m not sure if I can swing the tuition for four kids. We’ll have to look into that. Kayley babysat for our good friends on Friday night, so now she’s got money burning a hole in her pocket. The kids start back to school this week (the heavens just opened and sun is shining down upon me right now; imagine it) after five weeks at home, so I think I’ll take her shopping one day this week when it’s just the two of us.

And I’m up bright and early today, washing clothes and locating backpacks that haven’t seen the light of day since the 3rd week in December. I’m going grocery shopping after awhile, to stock up our pantry with lunchbox staples. Bring on school! I’m SO ready for it. My kids, less so. I think they’re enjoying sleeping in. Have a fabulous day!

We’ve got a sophomore in the house.

Kayley and I have had some delightful one-on-one time throughout the past few weeks, since the younger kids started back to school at the end of July. We’ve gotten our nails done, tried out those delightful McDonald’s smoothies (yay for free coupons!), and tackled an in-depth cleaning of her horrific cave of a room. (We still need to hit her dreaded closet. That will happen tomorrow.) Our mommy-Kayley time has just about come to an end, though, as my big girl begins her sophomore year next Monday. She’s spending lots of time at the park with her friends this week, trying to pack in as much chill time as possible! We’re feeling optimistic that this year is going to kick ass.

By my calculations…

The kids are finally in school, why am I not getting anything done? Thoughts about having all five children in school, for the first time in history. (Yay! New video post!)

First Day of School!

Wow, I thought I’d have my whole house clean by now. It’s the third day of school, and the third day where I’ve had three whole hours to do whatever I want! So far, I’ve had lunch with my husband, gone out for ice cream with my teenager, and returned some shoes. Woohoo! I think I’m going to go shampoo the carpets, though, so…watch out. The day is still young.

Here are my big kiddos! Pablo and Mallory started 2nd grade! Time just flies. It doesn’t feel like very long ago that they started preschool and kindergarten. They’ve even grown a lot since they started 1st grade. Check out the big kids!

First Day of 2nd Grade!

And speaking of big kids, how big do these girls look in their fancy new school clothes with their spiffy new backpacks? This is their first time EVER being away from me – I homeschooled for preschool, so I don’t even have any cute pictures of them from the past that I can link to. Ha! Here’s the first of what will be years and years of “front door pose” pictures, though! My kindies:

First Day of Kindergarten!

Life is good at the casa de chaos. And it’s QUIET.

It’s coming…

The first day of school, that is! My kids are SO EXCITED to be heading back to school – well, TO school for the very first time, in Nikki and Lexi’s case. They’re starting kindergarten! And guess who is JUST as happy about all of this? MOMMY! Yeah!

People keep asking me, what am I going to DO with myself? I have no idea. I’d like to think I’ll spend time getting pedicures and shopping at Target all by my lonesome. Unfortunately, I’ve already spent all my money on this:

School Supplies for 4 Kids...

And I still need to buy more pencils. Why in the world do 2nd graders need 48 sharpened pencils? Forty-eight? Seriously? For each kid, mind you. And my kindies need 24 each. I’m going to have to buy new batteries for our pencil sharpener!
