Have I mentioned that my little puppy Cali went into heat on New Years Eve? Well, yeah. She did. And it has pretty much completely sucked. See, I know this probably sounds completely ridiculous, but I had no idea that female dogs really did all this. I’ve always had male dogs, and I didn’t really understand what the heat cycle involved. In case you’re not sure either, let me enlighten you. It means your dog gets her PERIOD and bleeds all over your house. You have to buy these ridiculous, expensive little diapers for your puppy to wear if you don’t want blood everywhere. Also, her coochie swells up gigantic, which must be understandably uncomfortable, because she’ll try to chew her little diapers off all the livelong day so she can lick her cooch. It is an enormous drag. I am KICKING MYSELF for not getting her spayed sooner. Believe me, as soon as this thing is over with (Oh! And did I mention it goes on for THREE WEEKS???) I’m getting the deed done.
And besides the bleeding/swollen cooch/diaper wearing thing, the dog just seems really bummed out. She’s uncomfortable and seems like she’s in true pain. The internets tell me that dogs in heat actually get menstrual cramps, just like us ladyfolk do. She shivers and jumps around like there’s something nipping at her butt. Poor baby. And all she wants to do is lie in my lap. All. Day. Long. She never leaves my side.
There are worse things than having a lovable little puppy in your lap, I guess.
Aww. Poor Chiweenie. How often do dogs get their periods? Obviously it’s not every month like humans since it lasts for 3 weeks. I guess I could Google this, but I thought I’d leave you a comment instead.

Poor Cali, and poor mommy too. I had no idea that they lasted that long! She does look adorable curled up in your lap though.
