Pablo’s been DYING to make cookies for days now, ever since he saw me checking out these amazing looking Cinnamon M&M Oatmeal Chocolate Chip cookies. Our cookies were decidedly less fancy than the ones on Picky Palate, but I did have all the ingredients in my pantry, so this is what we made…peanut butter cookies with added chocolate chips!
Pablo used to be in a cooking group one day a week at school, along with several other boys with various special needs. They made simple recipes every week, and it was WONDERFUL – they all received hands-on skill-building in multiple areas: socialization, speech, fine-motor skills, reading, following directions, practicing safety and hygiene, etc. This year, they haven’t been able to fit it into the kids’ schedules and it’s such a bummer. Pablo misses it and I’ll bet the other boys miss it, too.
The kids had a great time making these cookies, and it made me want to do more cooking activities with them. I usually don’t, because, honestly, having four little kids in the kitchen is a pain in the ass, and often can be a little dangerous. Still, I’m going to have to work on that, because they really liked it. And the cookies were bomb!

You had me at the chocolate chips
I agree you have to watch the little ones in the kitchen but it is such a great way to share good times don’t you think?
