Yeah, remember when I said in January that I’d be doing a photo a day, to keep me on track and posting more often here? That seemed to well up until about, ohhh, April. So, instead of calling it my 365 project, I think I’m going to call it my 118 project. Maybe not. Maybe I’ll jump right back into it. After all, I only have a bazillion pictures of cute things I should totally be sharing with you. The kids’ first camping trip. The girl scouts at Casa Bonita. The sock hop, field day, Pablo in his brand new CUB SCOUTS uniform, and Nikki in her brand new glasses. So much awesomeness! So many boring, ordinary events and memories, meaningful only to my own little family, but here for your perusal just the same. I’m going to have to do a major condensing and recap of all that, just so I can feel caught up. Anyway.

Hi! How have you been? I’ve been swell. Here’s what’s been going on at the Casa de Chaos:
-
Kayley just wrapped up her sophomore year with COVA. You may remember that she’s been doing virtual school online all this school year. Tomorrow, we head back over to her old high school to get her registered for junior year. We are officially closing the book on homeschooling, and heading back into mainstream high school life. I think it’s done Kayley well to be out of that environment and away from all the little punks who made her life hell last year. Now, I’ve got every finger and toe crossed in the hopes that Kayley herself will be a good little high school junior and not fall back into her punkass ways! (I have high hopes.) -
Pablo is now a Cub Scout! Pablo has a good friend at school who is also on the autism spectrum, and his mom started a …troop? Den? Pack? I don’t even know what the word is. Anyway, she started one, for kids with special needs. They meet once a week and Pablo absolutely LOVES it. Paul takes him to the meetings, and I think it’s fabulous for the two of them to have a little time out together. I think Paul is actually less enthusiastic about all of it, but he enjoys seeing Pablo so happy. Also, I do ALL of this stuff with the kids, so I’m thrilled to pass something along to him!

- Mallory just finished up three days at cheerleading camp. It was a quick little free program put on by a local church, and we ended up signing up at the very last minute over memorial day weekend. She LOVED it. This has been one of the first activities of this type that she’s been involved in, and she picked up the moves and routines immediately. I *really* need to figure out a way to get her enrolled in some sort of dance class – I think she would excel and have a wonderful time. WHY can’t I cultivate my own orchard full of money trees? Hmph. On Friday, the two of us are heading up to the mountains for another weekend of Girl Scout Camp! We had sooooo much fun last year, and this year we’re actually riding up with some good friends, so it should be even more fun. Yay!

Lexi has been working SO hard on her writing throughout kindergarten. She’s still struggling with reading, but her penmanship is AMAZING. She prints more neatly than Mallory, and even KAYLEY, for that matter. I should find an example and share it with you. She’s really excited for 1st grade, and she is ready RIGHT NOW to go shopping for a new dress for Kindergarten graduation, which is coming up pretty soon. My little fashionista – she puts together the cutest little outfits – glad I ended up with at least ONE kid with amazing fashion sense; maybe she’ll rub off on me.

Nikki had sort of a rough springtime. I falsely assumed she was suffering from allergies, as she told me her eyes were hurting and burning her CONSTANTLY. We went through about a gallon of Benadryl before I finally took her to the pediatrician, who did a quick eye test with the chart and told me, “Did you know her vision is 20/40? You might want to get her in for an exam.” Oh. Yeah. Okay. So, we did that. And guess what? Her eyes are almost completely unable to focus on things close up, like when she’s reading, drawing, or playing on the computer. Besides that, she has a hard time seeing things at a distance, like the Smart Board and the teacher. So my littlest monkey is now wearing bifocals. We picked them up on Friday and it simultaneously made my heart happy and sad to hear her go on and on about how WELL she could see everything! I had NO IDEA she had a vision problem – none! But, we figured it out, and fixed it. Yay.

And Paul and I are gearing up for a fun and busy summer. My nephew Justin is getting married in July, and our friends Robby and Vetty are getting married in just a couple of weeks! Paul is DJing both their weddings. We’re taking a trip to South Dakota to see the monuments (and my sister, who is just a stone’s throw away in WY) and Paul’s riding to Sturgis in August. Speaking of my sister, she was just here over the weekend with her fiance, Cliff. (Did I mention that her whirlwind romance last summer has progressed quite nicely, and she and her man are very happy together and getting married in the fall? No? Well, there. I just did.)
This will have to do for now. I sat down to type up a quick post an hour ago, and now it’s time to go pick up the kids from school. See, now this is why I don’t blog. If I could just get it in my head that I should write blog posts AT NIGHT while the kids are in bed, instead of spending all my time on Pinterest, that would be super. Anyway. I wrote. Now you comment!

Here I am! Commenting!

Busy times at your house indeed! The kids have grown SO much…thank you for sharing your “mundane” pictures with the world!
Funny, right before I got online today, I got a call from my sister that confirmed my 15 year old niece IS coming to live with us and will be staying for the school year. We’ve been talking off and on for months about it, and I have told her about COVA and all the options with k12.com for school here (I homeschool Haley now, started when she was almost finished with 10th grade but missed SO much school from being so sick for months on end; and have started homeschooling Zachary in Kindergarten even though the little bugger won’t be 5 until July.) Long story short…I was thinking of you and Kayley and wondering how you AND she liked COVA and if you would recommend it for other struggling 15 year old girls?? My niece Danielle will be moving from south TX to CO, and I’m sure school will be different for her just because of the locations.
Apparently I have not lost the knack of rambling!

I am just amazed how much everyone is growing up. I have been reading most their lives!

Glad all is well! Funny- the same thing happened to me when I was a kid, my mother didn’t realize how poorly my vision was, until one of my teachers wrote home, “please get this kid some glasses…” she felt so bad!!!
