I was just over at Joelle’s blog and saw her post about wanting to blog more, and looking for blogging inspiration. I, too, find myself wanting to blog more – I have plenty to say, but it seems like by the time I sit down here at night, I’m to tired to type anything witty or funny or deep or even entertaining. It’s why I spend so much time on Facebook, really. But Joelle found these awesome writing prompts, where you spend every day for a month writing about YOURSELF. Hey, it’s a blog – it’s all about me, right? So, here’s what I’ll be writing about.
Day 01 — Something you hate about yourself.
Day 02 — Something you love about yourself.
Day 03 — Something you have to forgive yourself for.
Day 04 — Something you have to forgive someone for.
Day 05 — Something you hope to do in your life.
Day 06 — Something you hope you never have to do.
Day 07 — Someone who has made your life worth living for.
Day 08 — Someone who made your life hell, or treated you like shit.
Day 09 — Someone you didn’t want to let go, but just drifted.
Day 10 — Someone you need to let go, or wish you didn’t know.
Day 11 — Something people seem to compliment you the most on.
Day 12 — Something you never get compliments on.
Day 13 — A band or artist that has gotten you through some tough ass days. (write a letter.)
Day 14 — A hero that has let you down. (letter)
Day 15 — Something or someone you couldn’t live without, because you’ve tried living without it.
Day 16 — Someone or something you definitely could live without.
Day 17 — A book you’ve read that changed your views on something.
Day 18 — Your views on gay marriage.
Day 19 — What do you think of religion? Or what do you think of politics?
Day 20 — Your views on drugs and alcohol.
Day 21 — (scenario) Your best friend is in a car accident and you two got into a fight an hour before. What do you do?
Day 22 — Something you wish you hadn’t done in your life.
Day 23 — Something you wish you had done in your life.
Day 24 — Make a playlist to someone, and explain why you chose all the songs. (Just post the titles and artists and letter)
Day 25 — The reason you believe you’re still alive today.
Day 26 — Have you ever thought about giving up on life? If so, when and why?
Day 27 — What’s the best thing going for you right now?
Day 28 — What if you were pregnant or got someone pregnant, what would you do?
Day 29 — Something you hope to change about yourself. And why.
Day 30 — A letter to yourself, tell yourself EVERYTHING you love about yourself
Time to dive right in.
Day 1 – Something you hate about yourself.
Deep breath. Wow. Well, I think hate is kind of a strong word. It’s not one I let my kids use (yeah, I’m one of those annoying parents who thinks STUPID, SHUT UP, and HATE are bad words) but I’ll play along. One thing about myself that has caused me endless, unnecessary heartache and grief, is the MASSIVE amount of social anxiety I have, and the fact that I worry way too much about what other people think of me. I always try to instill in my children a strong sense of self, and I try to stress to them that they’re awesome, amazing little people exactly as they are – it’s really hard to embrace that notion for myself, though. And even though I usually find that people like me just fine or they don’t, and the world doesn’t stop turning either way, it still is a huge struggle for me. Definitely something I need to work on a little more!

I love your list of prompts! It’s a bold list, and you are so brave for tackling it.
I too have that thing still inside me from childhood that worries about what other people think. I often wonder if I will be able to keep Reagan from dwelling on that too much; if I can’t be a good example for her. But, I’ve never seen that part of you. To me, you are a strong, independent and creative woman, raising children just like you. Whatever you’re doing, you’re doing it right!
We all probably need a little work on our self-confidence. It’s human nature to want to be liked.

I never would have thought this about you Laura. Although I completely understand where you are coming from. I love that you are helping your kids and giving them the love and self confidence as they grow. You are amazing.

Awesome! I’ve seen this a couple of places today, I’m going to try to do it too!
I can relate to your post where you wrote “MASSIVE amount of social anxiety I have, and the fact that I worry way too much about what other people think of me.” I think a lot of women especially are this way. We all want everyone to think we can do it all, plus be social, and beautiful at all times, etc. I think that’s why blogging is popular, we are able to sensor what we put out there and really make people view us the way we want to be perceived. KWIM? Not that we are lying, but we can cover up the bad stuff if we want and look near perfect if we want! LOL!

I’m going to do this, after reading you and Joelle both tackling this, I can’t help but want to do it. I’ll be posting it on my facebook Notes, since I don’t have my public blog anymore. This won’t be a daily thing for me, but at least it will be 30 days of writing. Something I miss so very much and really really need to do.
