Mallory is in Girl Scouts this year, so … if you’re in need of Girl Scout cookies, PLEASE hit me up! Everyone I know seems to have a daughter in Girl Scouts, so I don’t know a whole lot of people who haven’t already bought cookies. But that isn’t what this post is about. It’s about the POWDER PUFF DERBY.
I saw the flyer for the Powder Puff Derby a few months ago and thought, fun! Mallory and Paul can decorate a little car together and race it with her troop – it’ll be a great activity for the two of them. They even have a sibling heat, so Pablo can race a car as well. So, I ordered two car “kits.” Imagine my surprise when I opened the boxes and discovered that it consisted of a block of wood, four nails, and four plastic wheels. Um…that’s it? What the hell do we do with these?

I actually found a site full of Derby Secrets and Tips – but the topics are more in the line of, “Make Your Own Reflective Windows from Old Credit Cards” and “How to Make Sure Axles are Straight.” I don’t see any articles titled, “How to Make a Little Car Out of a Piece of Nondescript Wood.” I have a feeling our cars are going to be the hoopties of this race!

Oh Im sure Paul will pimp ‘em out!! LOL! How fun!

You could look at the Boy Scouts website under Pinewood Derby, maybe they have some suggestions. Oh, silly me, I just saw that Kim in SLC has the same wisdom. Well… I think a coat of paint in Mallory’s fave colors would also improve things.

Wow! Does this bring back memories! My brother competed in Boy Scouts, and I believe he won. He liked to build rockets and stuff like that. Should be right up your husband’s alley as an engineer since it’s all about physics… or aerodynamics… or something like that. Hey, my brother grew up to be the engineering major, not me. But, sign me up for some Thin Mints & Dosie-do’s! I don’t have a supplier yet and I need my fix!!!

This is what I found: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=45WZnNCJG-8 & the user (http://www.youtube.com/user/derbydoc) has a ton of videos about the derby cars. Good luck Mallory!
