Shark Steam Mop – SUCKS!

Oooh, I got a new gadget! Awww, but it sucks. Hi. I know I haven’t posted in a minute. But I had to pop in real quick to let you know that we had an AMAZING housewarming/birthday party this past weekend, and in preparation for this soirĂ©e, I bought the Shark Steam Mop.
I used it in my kitchen before the party, and within the first ten minutes, I burned a perfect mophead shaped spot into my floor. Whoops! Then I used it after the party, when I had acres and acres of sticky tile floor to clean up. I must say, I’m not impressed with this thing. Even after switching to distilled water and using a fresh microfiber cover each time, it just does not work that well. It took me easily twice as long as it normally takes me to mop, because I had to go over each section two or three or four more times, because it still felt sticky under my flip flops, or it still looked dirty to me. I hate mopping as it is – I ESPECIALLY hate it when I have to do it for a half hour straight!
Also? I miss the shininess of a freshly mopped floor using poisonous glossy cleaners. So sue me. My floors seem clean, but look dull as hell.
I think I’m going to take this thing back to Bed, Bath & Beyond. You can do that, right? I mean, you can just take it back and tell them it’s duddy and that it doesn’t clean for shit, and they’ll give you your money back, won’t they? I guess I’ll find out soon enough!

You bet you can take it back. Thanks for the heads up about it, too. I had been wondering about it.
Miss you so much. But I’m always looking for updates. Thinking about all of you.

I looked into the Shark, and the reviews I found were a lot like yours, so I passed.
What I DO love is my Roomba (made and sold by iRobot). You can sometimes get killer deals on woot.com. I haven’t mopped in a couple of years, except to disinfect after potty training accidents!

Ack, I mean Scooba. The Roomba vacuums. The Scooba mops. Love ‘em both, although the Roomba needs a new rechargeable battery about once a year ($70).

Sorry man! I like my Shark, but my floors aren’t shiny to begin with.

I’m glad you posted this, because I was going to buy one! There has to be an effort free way to mop and I’m on a mission to find it.

I completely disagree with all of your complaints about the shark steam mop. I love mine and wouldnt be without it in my house. I admit the first time I used it, it took me longer than I hoped. Only because it cleaned that deep and my floors really needed it. As long as the dirt was still coming up on the mop, I kept cleaning it.
I have had 2 of these mops over the past few years and I highly recommend them to all of my friends. I have the hand held steamer also and love it as well.
make the water reservior thing bigger so I didnt have to fill so often.
The other is put some kind of removable filter to prevent the crud from our water plugging it up.
Love it

Personally I feel the ads for this machine are misleading. I believe it states something to the tune of “safe for all floors.” Well, if you have laminate or hardwood flooring and use this machine, your floors will fail. On another note, I would be skeptical of any product that says, “safe for all floors.” Thanks for the posting, I will not be purchasing one of these!
