My blogging has always ebbed and flowed. Half the time I'm busy keeping up with my RSS feeder.

Facebook and Twitter have killed message boards for me. I haven't logged onto one in over a year. Not worth it when I can connect with everyone at once.

Laura,
Gosh, it's been so long since I have even been on a message board. Wow, probably, really since I left Phoenix. I even got rid of my blog. I guess working 6 days a week, 10-12 hour days really killed the internet for me for a while. Then I met Stone.
Yeah, I use Facebook. And, since we're not friends on there, I come here to find out how you, Paul and the kids are. I'm glad you are all doing well.

I think doing paid blogging did it for me. I was so burned out on blogging. I turned to Facebook and Twitter because I didn't feel like blogging anymore.

I must admit, though, that I miss the archive of my life that I had with my blog. I'm seriously thinking I'll try to resurrect the thing if for that reason only.

I agree. I find myself spending more time on Twitter or Facebook and adding little snippets of life rather than the longer, more focused blog posts. I've had a draft of one post, titled "Confessions of a Crappy Blogger" for months now -- can't seem to finish it, ha ha ha. I'm determined to find time to continue to blog, as previous comments state - it's my new form of scrapbooking. I've been blogging for just over a year, but I am not a niche blog, and I think I'm still searching to find the real regular readership core that I think most bloggers strive for. I haven't decided if Twitter and FB are distractions or enhancements of my blogging life yet.

I totally agree with you. I have to admit that I don't get the facebook thing. I just don't like it. I like blogging because it's something to look back on. Almost like a scrapbook of my kid's growing up. :)

I think you can throw Twitter in there too. I was just having this very conversation with a fellow blogger yesterday.

First of all, I've recently started on Facebook and it it definitely sucking all my time away. I resisted as long as I could, until my oldest daughter confessed that she had an account and asked me to friend her. Now I'm having a blast connecting with my old friends - and a lot of blogging moms too.

But I'm going to try really hard to keep up my blog as a scrapbook of our family life. The downside is that people who read my updates on facebook wont find anything new on my blog. But the big surprise? I've gained readers. I credit facebook.

It's an interesting transition period. I feel like people are blogging a lot less too.

I've been thinking about this - the whole mommy blogger thing is all but dead, unless you're a professional mommy blogger (which I'm not).

Blogs these days are specialty blogs that cater to a certain demographic - the people who are looking for their great deals and steals, foodies, decorating, budgeting, weddings, etc.

Those of us who still really do write about our lives because we want to are losing readers because we don't stick with just one topic. Just a trend I've noticed.

I think have to agree with you. It has been a while since I have blogged myself, and I spend more time on fb than I do on twitter.
