It just occurred to me that I never posted about Mallory. And it’s already been nearly a week! She was doing pretty badly last Friday with the coughing and stuff, and I was concerned enough about her that I left the other little ones home with Kayley and took Mallory to the doctor. After a chest x-ray, they determined that she has PNEUMONIA! What? Seriously? What next? Leprosy? Trench mouth? Head lice?

She’s been very conscientious about not sharing her food and drink with others, so they don’t catch her “ammonia,” even though we’ve told her that it isn’t contagious. And I’ve been very conscientious about giving her huge doses of amoxicillan twice a day, careful to wash up really well afterward, since I’m deathly allergic to it.

And about that! At what point do you outgrow a penicillin allergy? All my life, I’ve been told to avoid penicillin, since I “almost died” from it as a baby. And the doctors said if I ever had even a drop of any “cillin” drug again, I probably would fall over dead. But…how come you never, ever hear about people accidentally dying because they took penicillin? Seems like everyone and their brother is allergic to it. And you hear all the time about people dying from random bee stings and peanut butter sandwiches they didn’t know would kill them. But you NEVER hear about people dying because of penicillin. Is it a big urban legend? Is it much ado about nothing? I have no idea.

Anyway. Mallory’s doing quite a bit better – especially considering she’s been on antibiotics for 6 days. And Pablo’s up and down. Today, he’s pretty good. Yesterday, he was feverish and shivery and quite pitiful, really. The little girls are fine. And I’m not sure what my problem is. I thought for a minute that I was getting sick too, but I think I’m just sick of being home with sick children. I’ll bet a night away with girlfriends, raucous laughter, and cocktails would cure me completely.

And now you’re all up to date.
