SERiously?
I know this post is going to make me sound like the most inept, inconsiderate driver on the road, especially after my post about the guy yelling at me in the pickup line. I SWEAR to you, though, I truly am a good driver. I used to drive like a bat out of hell, but since becoming a minivan driving mama, hauling around a whole bunch of children, I am a MODEL driver. I had an encounter just now, though, with a guy who is NOT a model driver. Model psychopath, model nutjob, maybe…any of those things.
I was driving down the freeway at the point where it ends and becomes another freeway. You have to make a decision whether you’re going to head east or west, and then pick your lane accordingly. And I, always prepared, was tooling along in the far, far right lane, all ready to exit. Me and a semi, doing about 65 – so, speeding enough that I was keeping up with traffic, but not hauling ass. Suddenly, I became aware of a car seriously tailgating me. I glanced up and saw him in the mirror, and while I was trying to decide what to do next, he got up next to me ON THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD and rolled down his window, then he THREW A BOTTLE at my van. Who does this? Who does this, unprovoked?? Did he have a problem with my In-N-Out bumper sticker or something??
That’s not even the kicker of the story. People are assholes, I get that. Here’s the part I can’t get my head around. When I called 911 to report the guy, the operator said, “Are you willing to follow him until the police can stop him, and then file charges against him, appear in court, and testify against him? If you’re not, then there’s nothing I can do to help you.” Seriously? SERIOUSLY? Somebody smashes a bottle into my car at 70 mph, and they’re encouraging me to chase him down? What if he shot at me? Their protocol is to do … NOTHING? For reals? I said, “I’m really not comfortable provoking this guy by following him…” and she said, “Well, that’s a decision for you to make, I guess.”
Yeah, well. Decision made, bitch. I came home! Like I’m going to FOLLOW someone like that and see where he takes me. What planet is this again?

Oh my gosh, Laura! Wow. I’m stunned that someone threw a bottle at your car (did it scratch it??) and the instruction from the 911 operator ???????? OMG. Unheard of. I wonder if you can lodge a complaint. That just doesn’t seem right.

OMG Laura! Thank God no one was hurt! Did you get the license plate number at least? You’d think that would be enough for the police to do something.
You’ve seen the signs on the side of the highway saying “Call this number to report an aggressive driver or DUI”, right? Would they expect you to follow them too? And endanger yourself doing THEIR job!?! What is their job anyway!?!?!?!

Wow, that just sucks. I’ve been passed on the shoulder like that, too, but throwing a bottle? That’s freaking nuts!
I think you are supposed report aggressive, crazy drivers on freeways to the State Patrol (*CSP on your cell). They say they actually keep track of the calls and will do something if there are a certain number of complaints against a certain license plate number.
I’m so sick of the people who follow the rules getting shafted.

my mother was once mugged in broad daylight in the parking lot of a King Soopers. The guy had a knife. My mother was digging in her purse to give him her wallet but her hand locked on the mace I had given her instead. She pulled it out and maced the guy. He grabbed her purse away from her before the mace started to affect him and pulled the wallet out just as the mace blinded him. He started brandishing his knife blindly at my mother at which point my mother (ever the environmentalist) started hitting him with her canvas grocery bag filled with 30 cans of cat food. The would be mugger fell to the ground and kept wildly slashing with his knife and clutching my mothers wallet. Finally, a mall security came over in his little mall golf cart and the guy throws the wallet down and tries to stagger away. They catch him. My mother signs all of the paperwork and relays her story to the Lakewood police department and they take him away. Shortly after my mother arrived home that evening, she recieved a call from the police department telling her that she needs to come down to the station right away. When she gets there it is to find out that the would be muggar is threatening to press assault charges against her and that the police officer has kindly got him to agree not to do that if my mother will drop all charges against him. My mother who has never even got a traffic ticket can’t believe she is about to be arrested for assault so she reluctantly agrees to drop the charges.

holy fudge on you and the above commenter story. I would have told them to bring on the charges in the mace situation and then called the local news
