I’m freaking out a little - and I’m sort of pissed at my doctor’s office, too. I had that CT scan one week ago, and have been waiting and waiting for the results. Finally, I decided to call them this morning and they said my dr. has been out sick all week. Apparently, that means, let this shit go until she gets back. They told me they’d have another doctor read the scan and call me back with the results.
So. Like, seven hours later, they called me back and said there’s something in my brain. A mass, a cyst, or something. Whatever it is, I need to go back and get an MRI now so they can look at it extra closely.
I’m trying not to freak out too much, because “cyst” doesn’t sound that scary, but of course Google is scaring the fuck out of me. And my fears run the whole gamut, from, “What if I need brain surgery?” to “What if I die and leave five kids motherless?” to “What if I fart inside that tube thing during the MRI?”
My appointment isn’t until the end of the month, so I have awhile to freak out yet.

Well, I suppose that if they thought it was worse they would have made the appointment sooner… I hate how the medical community works… hurry up and wait leaving you worrying.

First of all, STOP GOOGLING!!!! 90% of what you find online has nothing to do with what is going on with you. I know that is hard to do because I’m the same way…need to find as much information as possible when I’m sick too….but it will only freak you out more and more. Take a deep breath, think positive thoughts and know that the doctors wouldn’t have taken such a calm approach if they thought it was anything serious. Know you are in my thoughts!

Yeah, Dr. Google will mess with your head (ha!) every time.
And if you’re concerned about farting in the tube, get ‘em to send you to an open MRI place, so you don’t have to go “in the tube!”

I am sure it is nothing harmless. You probably just have an extra brain or something cool like that.

Just keep reminding yourself that if the doctor had seen anything dire, they wouldn’t have you waiting until the end of the month for further testing!
Just the same, I’ll be praying daily and asking everyone else I know to do the same.

Awww, Laura, I hate hearing that you have something to worry about. Just everyday crap is enough to keep us worried. However, I agree that if the doctors were super concerned about this they would have pushed your test up to the front of the line. Stay away from Google for now and I’ll be praying that farting in the tube is the most you have to worry about!!!

Sending you lots of god luck and well vibes.
Try not to stress too much until you know if it is really some thing to stress over. I had a friend with the same results and then the MRI showed it was nothing.
Hang in there !

I’d be freaking out, too. You’ll be at the top of my prayer list until we hear more after the MRI.

I’d be scared too but try to stay calm. (I know, easier said than done) I agree with everyone else though. If they thought it was something really serious they would not wait until the end of the month.
My thoughts are with you and know that if you need ANYTHING at all, I’m just a phone call away.

Man, why are they making you wait so long? Remember around the first of the year I had that CT scan and there was something on my brain? It ended up just being a “shadow” that sometimes shows up on CT Scans, but then on the MRI isn’t wasn’t there anymore. Hopefully that is all this is for you too!

Laura, you’ll be in my prayers! I think your own doctor would’ve made it a priority to let you know if there was huge concern! :o) And certainly they’d do the follow-up much faster than 3 weeks out too! So I’m praying there’s absolutely NOTHING to worry about!
Much love and many prayers!

Easier said than done, but try not to worry too much! My dad had a cyst in his brain that was not too big a deal at all.

Dr. Google is not a real doctor. He learned everything he knows from the internet.
My cousin had something similar and they never did find any reason for it and it doesn’t affect her at all. So I wouldn’t worry so much just yet! I hope the time just flies by until your appointment.
And I hope you don’t fart in the tube. P.U.!

I had been suffering from headaches a few years back and an MRI showed a spot in my brain somewhere. I was really freaked out and very worried, but it turned out to be nothing. So much of nothing, in fact, that I don’t even remember what it was. The headaches turned out to be due to a very long-lived inner ear inflammatory thing. Are you getting headaches?
I have missed you! I still love reading your blog and make it a point to do so when I can!

Oh Laura, I can understand why you’re freaked out. I’d like to think that mass is the smart part of your brain that allows you to parent 5 children with the patience of a saint and cook like a demon. Right? RIGHT?

Laura, I am going to be worried sick about you. BUT, you stop worrying! And stop googling.
I dont know if you remember when I had to have brain surgery, way back in December of 05. But, it was a difficult, yet managable experience. If you need to talk or have questions, please email me! Love you and praying for you.
