So, the Neglectful Mother period has come to an end. I’m now back at home with no plans to go anywhere for quite awhile. The kids are happy! (I think?) I ended the party phase with a bang, though, drinking mojitos with a bunch of cool bloggy mamas! Friday night, I dragged my poor sister along with me to the Mile High Mamas Mom’s Night Out in honor of the MHM’s 1st Birthday - I say dragged because although she is a mama (of grown children) and now lives in the Mile High City, she’s not a blogger, and she has a hard time relating to bloggy stuff in general. But hey - she’s my sister, dammit, so she has to support me! And here’s something that cracks me up - she kept saying “You owe me big time!” whenever things got weird, like when she had to participate in Speed Dating, and share things about herself and her “blog.” Ha! But if you look at the group picture on page linked above, who do you see there? MY SISTER! I was on the phone telling Daddy how much cough medicine Mallory needed before bed and missed the group shot. But my sister got right in it! Too funny.
We had fun. The event took place at Lime XS in Capitol Hill. Kim and I parted ways with Paul and the kids and they headed to Mickey D’s playland while we headed downtown. I was envisioning driving around the block 37 times trying to find a spot I could parallel park my minivan in without injuring anyone, but wouldn’t you know it - I parked about two feet from the front door of the restaurant, in the very first spot. Woohoo! And my good luck continued throughout the night - I won a mix CD from the Greeblemonkey monthly giveaway. Whee! And giant pitchers of Mojitos kept appearing on our table all night long! Yippee!
It was great seeing Amber again, after the Rocky Mountain Blogger Bash a few weeks ago. She’s so bubbly and bright, she just lights up the room. And this was the first time I met many of Denver’s amazing bloggers. Here’s the list of attendees, copied from the MHM page: Gretchen from Lifenut, Aimee from Greeblemonkey, Annie from Anniethology, Lori from Weebles Wobblog, Amy from Inherent Passion, Denise from Eat, Play, Love, Jen from Laughing at Chaos, Anne from Twas Brillig, Laura aka ME, from LaLa Girl, Laurie from MomToBeDepot, Erin from Following My Folly, Kim from HighTechMomsClub, Nini from Delirious Zoo, Kira from Ki Words, Mary Beth from In the Painting of Chaos, Hannah from Marge in Real Life, Oz from Oz Spies, and, of course, Mile High Mamas founder Amber from Crazy Bloggin’ Canuck.
I’ve known Nini forever from Colorado Moms, and I “know” her sister-in-law Gretchen too, although this was the first time I’ve met Gretchen in person. I loved doing the Speed Dating thing, because I got to briefly talk to every single one of those awesome Mommy Blogger chicks. They’re so fun! I have pictures on Flickr right here. (Not many, unfortunately. Booooo!)
The rest of the weekend was nice and quiet, hanging out here at home with the monkeys. My sister came over for breakfast yesterday and we enjoyed the crisp morning outside on the patio. I’m about to pack up these little girls and head over to her place for a minute - I’m kind of ODing on Sister Time, but I still feel like I have so much time to make up for, after all the years Kim was absent from my life.
Wow, this post is ending rather awkwardly, isn’t it? Hmmm. I have to get in the shower like RIGHT NOW, though, so…we’ll just file this under ABRUPT ENDINGS. There ya go!
Laura, also known as LaLaGirl, is the mother of a teenager and two young sets of twins. She's happily married to an enginerd named Paul, loves living in Colorado, and writes almost daily about married life, raising multiples, and parenting a child with autism. In addition to playing Barbies and pretending to eat plastic food all day, Laura spends most of her time folding clean laundry, obsessing about the amount of sugar her kids eat, and vacuuming up Polly Pocket accessories. She's obsessed with Yo Gabba Gabba, red wine, and Family Guy. She also regularly contributes to How Do You Do It? and authors the following blogs:

It was way fun! And of course it was great to see you! You are by far one of the coolest chickies I’ve had the pleasure to meet online. It was also nice meeting your sister, she did seem a bit overwhelmed, but then again so was I

I’m a sucker for other sister-lovers.
Wait. That sounds much nastier than I meant it.
What I MEAN is, it was great to meet you and your patient sister. Just how ARE you going to pay her back?
How about you let her watch your brood for a weekend?
Nice meeting you, Laura.

Sounds like you had a great time with blogging mommas. I hope we do something like that for the local bloggers here. Well, I guess attending Blogger on the road will do it.

It was great meeting you - and your sister! Love your pictures - in the one with me and Nini I look like I’m ordering her to go fetch my tiara. I SWEAR I wasn’t!
I had a lot of fun and can’t wait for the next one. See you there!
