I think we just learn to drop our standards. Our kids aren't school-age yet, but they're in daycare and I work full-time. We don't sleep a lot, but have decided that a certain level of mess is okay, meals must be healthy but not elaborate, and sometimes, you just can't do it all. The hubby and I also try to give each other at least 3 hours of free time a month. i just spent mine yesterday, catching up with college friends! How do you do it all?
