At least I’m not dying of heatstroke.

We have had ridiculously warm temps here in Denver lately. I think the record was something like 18 days in a row of above 90 temps. But, you know what they say. It’s a dry heat. I was sort of used to just sitting in our air conditioned house, going nowhere, when the heat wave finally broke! Oh, glorious day! We had probably twelve straight hours of rain. I went out yesterday and pulled weeds in the backyard, and they just popped right out of the mooshy ground, roots intact. I’ve had the windows open, and I’m airing out the house. Yesterday, we played outside in the backyard in 71 degree weather. It’s been splendid.

The only complaint I have is that the change in temperature and humidity is fucking killing my joints! I always thought my mom was exaggerating when she talked about how her wrists could tell her when it was going to rain. Nope. She wasn’t. And all those years of rolling my eyes at her is biting me in the butt now! My wrists, my ankles, even my heels – they’re killin’ me! My knees are cracking and popping and aching and swelling. What the hell, man? I’m thirty-five, not sixty-five! Between my arthritic joints and my no-line-bifocals, I’m feeling WAY less than hot these days. Where’s my Geritol and my walker?

Laura, coincidentally, I just came across a bunch of information about diet and arthritis. The stuff I was reading said to avoid all nightshade vegetables (fruits, really). Have you heard that before or tried it? I’m sorry you’re in so much pain! I hate to think what it will be like as you get older.

Yay that the heat wave finally broke. I think they said we had 24 straight days of 90+ and those days over 100 were brutal. I was digging the rain, but wished we could’ve gotten it over a longer period rather than those torrential downpours. Figures I was out driving when the storms hit.

I’m sorry you’re hurting. (HUGS) I’ve had the same problem with my joints for years. I can always tell a storm is coming when my left knee aches. I also get severe headaches when the air pressures changes as fronts come through. Fun times.

I am freezing in Sydney now.. (it’s still relatively just nice and cool compared to the US and Europe), but I would trade even just an hour of heat for now. Have a nice weekend!
