It’s so hard to say goodbye.

1st week of preschool - fall of 2006 Well, this is the last week of school for my little monkeys. Technically, the last day of school isn’t for another week and a half, but since we’re leaving on vacation this weekend, we’re wrapping it all up in the next few days.

Today, my sister and I went to breakfast with the little girls and with my mom. When we were finished, we dropped my mom off at home and headed over to the school a few minutes early to visit with Pablo’s teacher and so Kim could see the kids’ classrooms. It was a little surreal sitting there, thinking, this is probably the last time I’ll leisurely sit here, watching the kids play. After two years of Pablo spending his days with this one particular teacher, it’s going to be really hard to finally say goodbye. She’s been a huge force in Pablo’s life, and she’s always been my biggest cheerleader. I hate thinking about not seeing her everyday! Saying goodbye is going to be hard for all of us. Bittersweet, I guess, since Pablo’s growing and learning and moving on to a program at another school better suited to his needs. It’s exciting thinking about things to come, but sad thinking about saying goodbye to our neighborhood school and the teachers and paras and therapists we’ve grown to know and love.

Pablo’s teacher sat down beside me today and said, “Thank you. I just wanted to say thank you for a great year.” And I said, “No, thank YOU!” and then both of us started to get teary and we laughed at ourselves for being so emotional! Imagine what a blubbering mess I’d be if we were actually going to be at graduation?

Off to get a teacher gift. Something that conveys “You’re fucking awesome!” without having a picture of an apple on it, y’know?

I noticed you didn’t say anything about a big emotional moment with Mallory’s teacher. Did you get her a “You Suck” gift?

We gave Alex’s teacher a Target gift card. Nothing says “You’re awesome!” like money.

Awww. I’m glad she was so awesome.

I forget – are the big kids going to school at all during the summer?

I was thinking about something like that – or maybe Bath & Body Works? Is that store universally loved by all women, or do some chicks hate it?

Amy – we’re moving to a new district with year round school, and I’m actually not sure when school starts for them – it could be as soon as right after the 4th of July!

Bath and Body Works is a place where everyone can find something they love.

I got a truckload of Target cards, which was great because I could combine them and spend a lot, lol! (I got the WiiFit!) I’m sure whatever you get her she will love!

As a preschool teacher, it’s hard for us to say goodbye to the special little ones, too. I’ve teared up several times!

I think you should go with the Target card. I am someone that is extremely sensitive to scents and I would find a Bath and Body works card useless. Most people don’t think about people being sensitive/allergic to scents (especially women) but it’s possible.
