What the hell?
Do I want to write about? I think of something, and get ready to start typing, and think, nahhh. When life is going smoothly and we’re knee-deep in our daily routine, I have nothing interesting to write about. Nothing!
Well, I could talk about Kayley and how she’s continuing to struggle in school, but it’s sort of taking a lot out of me personally and I don’t much want to talk about it. I could, however, talk about her darling new haircut! Monday begins a new trimester, and I’m hoping to really send her back feeling like she’s got a fresh, brand new start. I think having cute hair will help. After sitting through a really difficult meeting on Friday with Kayley, her dad, and the vice principal, I was thinking Friday night we should do something fun. So I took Kayley for a haircut, eyebrow wax, and then we went out to dinner. It was really nice to spend some time with her.
I also could mention how my parents came over for dinner on Saturday night, which completely shocked me. I’ve invited them over probably half a dozen times (mostly spur-of-the-moment) and they’re always too tired or too busy, but on Saturday, my dad called me back while I was at the supermarket and told me they’d love to come over. Whee! So we had enchiladas (or as Lexi calls them, “enchimamas”) and a fair amount of wine. We watched the kids climb the ropes in the playroom and had a nice little visit.
I should also mention that the twins club sale is coming up at the end of the month and I’m up to my eyeballs in clothes and toys and equipment that I need to tag for the sale. It’s ridiculous. And stuff keeps coming up which keeps me from doing my tagging. Like, Paul’s dad and stepmother stopped by today on their way back from Grand Lake and we all had breakfast together and visited until about lunchtime. And the rest of my day was taken up by the massive mountain of dirty laundry I’ve been ignoring for awhile. I was a busy little bee today! The good news is that we all have clean clothes to wear to work and school tomorrow.
Another thing I did this weekend was set up a reading area for the kids. I read to Pablo and Mallory each night at bedtime, but Nikki and Lexi get the shaft where that is concerned. They’re still in cribs, and they get zipped away, we sing songs, and then I move down the hall to put the bigger kids to bed. I’ve felt a fair amount of guilt over that for awhile, so I decided, screw that. I brought a big bookcase into the girls’ room and set up bean bags and my old glider rocker so I can sit and read to everyone just before bed. In addition, I took down the girls’ crib tents, almost exactly one year after I installed them. They’re big kids now, and I’m just about ready to switch them to twin beds, so I decided to hell with the tents. Pablo and Mallory always run in and unzip them in the morning anyway. It’s much nicer for everyone now. And I’m thinking next weekend, we’ll do the big bed switcheroo, so that I can tear down the girls’ cribs and then tag them to sell in a couple of weeks! Might as well clear it all out of here, right?
It’s been a splendid weekend. I didn’t get anywhere with my damned tagging, but I will. I will! Tomorrow, we’re supposed to get five inches of snow, so I’m thinking it’s going to be a big sloppy mess. Supposed to be back in the sixties by Friday, though, so I won’t have a snowy birthday!

I think it is so cool your took your daughter to get her eyebrows done. Not because I think she needed it, but because I didn’t know about any of that kind of stuff until I was in college. And it was kind of embarrassing to learn about it that late. She looks so much like you!

Hey Laura! Sorry to hear about kayley’s troubles with school. But, her hair so cute! She’s growing up too fast! I hope to be around more, commenting more and I’m even starting to blog again. I never could get into myspace, lol.

I loved reading about you setting up the reading area. I bet the kids (and you) will really get a lot of fun use out of that.
Big girl beds? Oh my…I can’t believe it! But what a good idea to time it with the sale, so you can move them right on out! Go you!

My 14-year-old has only let me take her to get her eyebrows done twice. She complained so much the last time that I’m not sure I’ll ever get her back there (which is BAD. girl inhereited my eyebrows, and I am talking SHRUBBERY.)
If you ever need a sympathetic ear, we’ve gone through so much with my younger (step)daughter, with school issues, depression, poor self-esteem and impusivity – I’m here for ya. Granted, I’m two time zones away most of the time, but STILL
I can relate.
