Run!

Have you ever noticed that the first couple of weeks of December go by at a normal pace, while the week before Christmas moves in time lapse, and everyone’s whipped up into a fucking frenzy? It’s a phenomenon I make a note of every year, and then forget completely by the following Thanksgiving. Obviously I forget, or I would have finished MY OWN Christmas cards WEEKS ago. But, no. We just took Christmas card pictures over the weekend (see Flickr stream for a few that didn’t make the cut) and I just got our card designed yesterday. I’m dreading going over to Wal-Mart to have it printed and having to deal with the usual Wal-Mart assclownery times a thousand, since it’s the week before Christmas and the store will be just nuts. Just yesterday, my friend Jammie was relating a story to me about nearly getting in a fistfight with some low-rent hag over a parking space at Target. Crazy!

But – it has to be done. I have teacher gifts to make, Christmas cards to print (and mail!) and some good news for any of you who may happen to live out my way: Picadilly Road is now open! Yippee! Paul burst into the house last night hollering about it, startling the crap out of me. If you’re a regular reader here, you may have read me bitching about this road, which runs almost directly behind our house. It’s like – the last road of the city, for real – on the other side of it is fields and horizon. We use this road to zip down to the freeway, as it runs right on the outside of our whole neighborhood. They closed it in June of 2006, and it was supposed to open back up in December of 2006. The huge blizzard we had last Christmas that left 2-3 feet of snow on the ground until February delayed things substantially. They finally opened up the stretch that runs from our house north to the next main road in July of this year. Which nobody gave a shit about, really – the street one block over that runs through the neighborhood itself worked just fine, with only two stop signs to deal with. It was the stretch of road running SOUTH of here, the one that connects to the roads leading to I-70 and E-470 that everyone cared about. And now, AN ENTIRE YEAR after it was supposed to be done, A YEAR AND A HALF after it closed, it’s OPEN AGAIN. Oh, happy day!

Maybe I should take advantage and head down south to the “better” Wal-Mart!

My favorite way to your house is open again??? Bliss!!!

Of course, I’ll probably get lost first time I try to use it. LOL

I always use Shutterfly.com for my holiday cards. They do a great job and I don’t have to leave the house. It takes about 5 days, though. Maybe for next year!
