This morning, we had a meeting with our new service coordinator from Denver Options, the agency that helps us get services for our kids. It went well, and she was really nice, and the kids seemed to really dig her. Mallory, in fact, would not leave her ALONE and kept drawing pictures for her and trying to get her to check out stuff on TV with her. Hee! I’m a little overwhelmed by all the information, though. Sheesh! It’s so hard to know if you’re EVER doing enough for your kids. I’d like to find a balance between being a total slacker and driving our son crazy with too much therapy. He’s getting speech and OT at school, but our service coordinator suggested he might get more out of going a full day. Is that too much for my little four-year-old, though? Going to school for a full day while Mallory goes a half day? And will it screw up my day having to pick up Mallory at 11:30 and Pablo later on? It’ll spell out the end of naptime, for sure. That alone is enough for me to say, “Nahhhh, he’ll go to full time school in 1st grade anyway!” I need naptime WAY more than they do. It’s the only time I have to get anything done!
Anyway. It seems like there are lots of services out there we could take advantage of, but it’s almost like I’m jumping into some crazy archaeological dig trying to figure out how to get approved for them, get funding for them, and figure out the logistics of working them into our already chaotic life. I need to get on the stick, though. Winter is a comin’, which became pretty clear to me when I opened the door this morning - it’s cold as a witch’s titty out there today! I knew the temperature was dropping, but you’re never REALLY prepared for the drop from 77 to 30.
I want to make soup.

I’m with you there! It’s wonderful the amount of services that are offered…but getting them is like a crazy maze of paperwork, hoop-jumping, red-tape…and did I mention paperwork?!?! I’m glad my girls are getting the help…but sometimes it seems like MORE work this way!!
Good luck working it all in!!

You’re doing too much for your child when the other children start suffering because of the time and energy commitments to the one child. Trust your gut. You’ll know what you can and cannot do. And you’re doing a wonderful job right now!
