Thursday Thirteen
Thirteen Items of Random Kid Cuteness.
- Nikki and Lexi have become a little obsessed with ladybugs lately. Or, as they call them, “Yay-bubs.”
- Mallory’s new favorite TV show lineup is on Cartoon Network on weekday afternoons: Scooby Doo and Tom & Jerry. It’s weird to see her laughing at the shows I loved as a kid! Oh, and she thinks the cat’s name is “Tommen.” Haha!
- I told Mallory she needed to carefully follow her teacher’s instructions when doing her homework, and she said, “Yeah, or Mrs. ____ will frown at me with her eyebrows!”
- The kids have become obsessed with house music and always ask us to turn the TV to the cable music channel that has “dance” music playing. Then they clear the floor of toys and start dancing. Seriously, I need to make a movie of it – it’s so funny. Especially Lexi – she does this weird flappy arm thing, and then bends over and touches the floor with one leg out like she’s about to go into a breakdancing move. So funny.
- Nikki got very upset with me the other day because I couldn’t figure out what she was talking about when she kept asking for a “Bee-yot.” Eventually, we figured out that she wanted a barrette because her hair was “falling down” on her.
- I showed Mallory how to write her name in cursive and she thinks it’s “Karsyn” writing instead of “cursive.”
- Mallory has been “taking pictures” of the girls with an old Happy Meal toy she thinks is a camera. She keeps squatting down and snapping pictures, then telling the girls, “Now kiss each other,” and “Don’t look at me, just keep playing…” I imagine Courtney is the only one who will find that as funny as I do!
- Pablo has started singing the Goodnight Song I always sing to him at bedtime every time he has to close a door behind him. So, he sings it to his teacher, to the toilet, and most recently, sang “Gooood night, Wendyyyy…good night, Wendy…” while we were leaving Wendy’s the other night. As in, Wendy’s, the restaurant!
- Nikki insists that oatmeal is “Oat Milk.” She even pronounces the “k” sound with great emphasis, so it’s more like, “Oat Mayyyyyallll-kuh.”
- Pablo has just learned to draw happy faces, and they’re completely cartoon-like – huge, round eyes (of different diameter) with big pupils, and crooked smiles. I almost want to get them printed on shirts!
- One of Pablo’s dearest and most loved possessions is a tiny plastic chicken, which looks like a shrunken-down version of the rotisserie chickens you get at the supermarket. He carries it around all day, holding it up to us and smiling proudly, saying, “Chicken!”
- When the kids fight, they like to guilt trip one another, saying things like, “I’m your SISTER! You can’t take that toy from me!”
- When Mallory has realized she isn’t going to get her way, she’s started folding her arms and shouting, “Fine!” I have no idea where she got the idea to do that. I don’t do that! Paul doesn’t do that! Kayley doesn’t do that! It’s like the Sass Fairy just visited one night and planted the idea in her head.

I love little how little kids pronounce things. Around here they tend to stick. Like “aw-green” is ice cream, “fridgefritter” is the fridge, “pandacakes” for pancakes (or pan-clocks if we’ve recently watched 50 First Dates), etc.
Great list, Laura. Your kids are so darn cute!

Sorry for the delayed comment… So tell me if this is cute or not. Amaya calls her babysitters son, “Pussy” – his name is P.J. That is really just how she pronounces it. I crack up everytime we leave her house and she tells him, “Bye Pussy!” and his other 16 year old friends are there laughing. I guess I kind of feel bad but it’s not like she knows. lol
