I’m trying NOT to think of it that way, but I’m sure the water-to-pee ratio in the typical baby pool is pretty scary. But, who cares, right? Like Bear Grylls says, urine is sterile! And besides, the kids had fun today going SWIMMING for the first time EVER. I mean, they’ve been in plenty of backyard baby pools, but we’ve never been to The Pool before today. I was always WAY too nervous about attempting any such thing.
It’s hard enough just taking the four little ones to the PARK and keeping my eye on everyone. The idea of taking them somewhere that they could run off and DROWN was just way too stressful for me.
Today, though, RaeJean convinced me that we should give it a try. She lives in a little bitty small town east of Denver, and she assured me that their municipal pool would be fine - it had a fenced in baby pool completely separate from the “big” pool, and she said there were hardly any people ever there. And she was completely RIGHT, of course. We got there at about 2 or so, and there were maybe twenty kids in the big pool, and TWO kids in the baby pool. Crazy! After a few minutes, we had the place mostly to ourselves! And my kids had a BALL. The water was only about a foot deep - Pablo could sit down in it and have his chest and head out of the water. It took my kids a few minutes to decide they wanted to swim. Well, all but Nikki, who immediately jumped in, still wearing her swim coverup and her pink Crocs. After all the kids warmed up to the idea of swimming, they jumped around and splashed and giggled for HOURS. We were there until the pool closed at 4:30! And of course, you know my kids CRASHED on the way home. That’s what I love about going swimming - it always wears them out!
We had such a good time. We’re going to try to go again with RaeJean and her kids next week. Summer’s just flying by, and we need to pack a few more fun outings in, before it’s over! Just today, I got the letter from the kids’ elementary schools, with their supply lists. Flyin’ by, I tell you. If you want to see more pictures of my kids splashing it up, they’re right here in Flickr.
