I’m a lazy book reader.

I finally returned my (overdue) library books on Monday. It seems like I go through these phases where I read, read, read for a month or two and then NOTHING for months and months. I was dying for some new stuff to read, so I got on the library’s website and put holds on a few books that were recommended to me. One of them was She Got Up Off the Couch by Haven Kimmel – EXCELLENT book, by the way – it’s the sequel to A Girl Named Zippy. Paul picked up my books for me on his way home from work, and when I saw them sitting there on the counter, I couldn’t figure out what they had given him – the book I just mentioned was on CD! I must have ticked the wrong box when I reserved it online. I was going to return it, but instead I ended up listening to it (and forcing my children to listen to it as well) every day in the car for about a week. And it was AWESOME!! The book was read by the author, which made it that much more interesting, and it was super entertaining.

So. Fast forward to NOW, and I got on the library’s website again, thinking I could possibly reserve a couple more books like that, to listen to in the car. And of course, now that I’ve been exposed to the wonders of audiobooks, most of the books I wanted weren’t available on CD! Just my luck.

I just discovered, though, that there’s a place online where you can get audiobooks in the mail, listen to them, and return them to get new ones – basically just like Netflix does with movies. It’s pretty neat, actually! You can sign up for a specific amount to order every month, and it just bills your credit card, and you get your little audiobooks in the mail, lickety split. It’s called BooksFree.com, which I kind of don’t get, since it’s NOT free – but I guess the only free place is the library! At least on this site, you can get the books you really want, right away. Check it out if you’re into that whole audiobook thing!

Cool – glad to know She Got Up Off the Couch is a good one. I read A Girl Named Zippy, but not the sequel yet. Looking forward to it.

Have you read anything by Jonathan Tropper? I think you would really dig him. I’ve got an author crush on him, big time.

I got so spoiled by the library district where I used to live — no late fees ever. They only even stopped letting you check out new items if you had more than 5 overdue things out. Needless to say, I often owe hefty fees to the libraries where I live now. I got lax.

LOVE listening to books on CD. I read The Memory Keeper’s Daughter and now about 6 months later I am listening to it. I get different things out of injecting it differnt ways.

My four-year-old informed me she is “so tired” of this story. :)

I haven’t read Jonathon Tropper – I should check him out!
