I am having the worst, most excruciating back pain. It’s really throwing a wrench into my plans with the kids. Well, my plans were just to play in the yard and stuff, but I haven’t wanted to move for two days now. It feels like…back labor. I’m not sure if it’s a nerve thing, or what. It’s way down, almost in my butt crack, and just throbs all day and all night. If I happen to lean too far forward, look down, or bend over to pick up something, I get that crazy, insane shooting pain that makes you go, “Fuck!” even if you had no intention whatsoever to utter a word like that around your children.
I’m not sure what to do about it, either. I’ve tried:
This morning, I dug out some old Vicodin and took one of those. I finally feel like I might be able to get out of the house and buy diapers, which is a good thing, since we’re down to like…eight! Help me!

Oh that sucks! Sorry you feel so crappy. Maybe you should go to the doctor?

Okay, your name is Laura, you’re a mother of twins, and you use the word “Ack!”… could we be any more alike?! I can’t remember how I found your blog, but I’m glad I did
(Oh, and you have back pain, too? But mine is not nearly that bad…. yikes!)

Use Ice!! I have chronic back pain. I have Degenerative Disc Disease.. and the pain is VERY low, like you are describing and when it shoots, it hits my siatic nerve and it goes down my legs. Anyway.. You need to ice your lower back for 20 minutes, every 2 hours. It helps tremendously. And maybe look into a chiropractor?? I never went to one until last year and I LOVE it. Also, I don’t know if you have insurance or not but my insurance covered my chiropractic visits. I hope you get to feeling better soon
I UNDERSTAND back pain!! I missed almost an entire week of work about 2 weeks ago because of it. The ONLY bearable position was laying down in bed surrounded by pillows.

I second Candace - the ice thing works. I know it’s hard with the kids and all, but if you could get to a doctor and get some anti-inflammatories, that might help as well.
