I loathe this kind of marketing.

The kind that preys upon the fear of parents. Ugh! It just irks me. This is what I’m talking about: I got home from shopping today to find a note taped to my front door. It says:

ATTENTION NEIGHBORS

A SEX OFFENDER HAS MOVED INTO THIS AREA!!!

WE ARE ASKING EVERYONE TO BECOME AWARE!!!

FINED OUT WHO THEY ARE AND WHAT THEIR ADDRESS IS!

(Yes, that’s how they spelled “find.”) It included a URL, which I’m not going to give the benefit of linking to, but it is www dot neighborhoodredalert dot com. (And, yes, you have to type the www or it doesn’t work, which is, just, what? Super effective web presence, there?)

It’s not a personal warning – it’s a mass produced note created to illicit fear in parents, so that they’ll pay money to log onto this site and find out information that’s generally provided for FREE. Hate that!

They talked about this on the news, how it’s junk mail! They were posting them in Littleton or somewhere, guess the news story about what idiots they are didn’t stop them from coming up here?

Is that guy still at it? I heard about that jerk on the radio back when I was still working pizza back in 2005. He must be making quite a living from it. Jerk.

Is there someplace you can complain about that?
