I’m an enigma!
Gah! Dammit. I keep trying to write this post, and then the phone rings or something and I get all distracted and then nothing I’ve written looks right so I delete it all. Okay, so I’m going to just type really fast so I can finish it!
I have a mystery ailment!! I know I’ve already mentioned it, right? Weird abdominal pain, way down low, on my right side. It’s been constant for…12 days now. I went to my doctor on Wednesday, and she couldn’t find a thing wrong with me. She ordered tests and I had my blood and my peepee all examined and evidently, I am perfectly healthy. Except that I’m in pain for no apparent reason! So, she prescribed me some antibiotics and said if it didn’t go away in a few days, to follow up with radiology and have an ultrasound done. But, if anything got worse, to get seen again immediately.
So I felt like a sackful of ass all day yesterday. It was my worst day yet. I mostly was just lazy all day, and then I really started feeling lousy about the time we sat down for dinner. We did the girls’ birthday cake and all that (which was really fun, and so cute, and if you haven’t checked out the pictures in Flickr yet, GO. Now! Comment on the abundance of cuteness, and then come back and finish reading this.) and I was feeling worse and worse, and eventually I told Paul I thought we should just go to the ER. So that’s what we did. We spent about 5 hours at the hospital, where I got poked and prodded and had a CATHETER (fun!) and a CAT scan and they can’t find anything wrong with me. They think it *might* be a kidney stone, although they really didn’t SEE one on the scan. I’m just annoyed now!
They DID give me a nice little prescription for Percoset, so that’s improved my day greatly, but still – I’m so annoyed that nobody can find anything wrong with me!! At the same time, I’m relieved to see I don’t have a giant tumor or an alien growing in there or something. So, I haven’t been online much – mostly just lying in my bed, feeling pitiful.
And Paul is still BUSY with the frickety frackin club, so I have to actually venture out into the world and go pick up K from school in a minute. Wah. Wahhhhhh.
So, whoever is out there poking the Laura voodoo doll with a pin, KNOCK IT THE HELL OFF.

Did they do an ultrasound? I only ask cause when I get that pain, it’s usually a really small cyst that wants to burst either on my ovary or on my cervix.

Gosh, Laura. So sorry. But it is puzzling. I’m with Mommy The Maid – sounds like it could potentially be a cyst, mainly because nothing else makes sense from the location you’re describing. I don’t really think a kidney stone would be causing you discomfort on the very lower, right. Appendicitis is the first thing that comes to mind, but I’m assuming they’ve completely ruled that out from the CAT scan. Only other thing is Diverticulitis – but, again – I think it would’ve been evident on the scan. I’M no help, am I ?!

It sucks you have a mystery ailment! How would you like to be the teacher I work with?? He had surgery to remove the stone, and instead of removing it, they think they shoved it back up their further, because they couldn’t find it!!! Accckkkk!

I am so sorry they didn’t give you a straight answer! (((HUGS))) Yay for pain meds right? I hope you feel better real soon.

Laura, didn’t you have something like this a couple of years ago?
January 20th, 2007 at 11:40 am
(((Laura))) How frustrating!!! Could it have anything to do with that procedure to get your tubes “tied”? Scar tissue, maybe adhering to something? I guess that is something only a laproscopy could rule out. Maybe call to see your GYN instead of a regular doc.

You poor thing, how frustrating! I hope they figure out what it is and get you fixed up lickety split.

Laura! You know me, rarely comment, but I always do read, my dear.
Anyway, I had a similar thing happen a little over a year ago. I had this INCREDIBLE pain my lower left side and could not figure it out! They thought I had some kind of virus and put me on meds. Didn’t help. Tried a clear liquid diet where I ate nothing but chicken broth, Jello and Sprite for WEEKS and nothing. So, I finally went for a CT scan, too. It’s a LONG story, but they found a mass in my intestines which they all assumed was my appendix bursting. They rushed me upstairs to ER and prepped me for surgery. My surgeon, however, was sure that it was not my appendix. Turns out I have Crohn’s Disease and I never knew it. So my intestines were infected and diseased and had walled themselves off from the rest of my GI tract. It’s amazing what the body can do. Anyway, they had to remove a lot of my intestines and I have an 18 inch scar all the down my belly. I was in the hospital for 7 days (4 of which were spent in the ICU) and all this crap. I had to take 2 months off work and am still not right. I can’t eat A LOT of stuff because my system simply can’t digest it.
Anyway, the moral of the story is not to freak you out, but to encourage you to keep on it. If the meds don’t work, keep testing for anything they can think of. Just DON”T let it go and do NOT think you can deal with the pain. It’s not worth it. There has to be SOMETHING wrong and somehow it needs to get figured out.
Good luck. I’m thinking of you! xoxoxoxoxo

Hey sister, I’m sorry you are hurting. I agree with Tina, my friend has Chrone’s, and she had alot of the very same symptoms you are describing. I wish I could help:(
XOXOXO

Well, I had a similar pain on my side that lasted for days, would go away, and come back – and would you believe it was/is related to my mattress being worn out? I sleep on my side, and I guess it’s worn in one particular spot and the metal must be right beneath the surface or something, because it hurts like hell in the morning and for days afterwards if I end up in that spot. The first time it happened, I went through a batter of tests, ultrasounds, etc…they also thought it was a kidney stone, but of course, never could find anything. Not saying this is your situation, and you’re right to get checked out, but sometimes it’s also the least likely culprit.

My initial thought based on what you described was a cyst too – I had something like that last year, that was totally debilitating – and then when it burst – it was almost like instant pain relief. But…would the tests they’ve already done show Chrone’s?

Mmm…percoset.

(((Laura))) I hope they can figure out what is wrong soon. I hate going to the doctor only to be told they have no idea what is causing your pain.

I am not laughing at you…just your phrases! I hope you feel better soon. I hate those unexplained illnesses and pains that sneak up on us.
January 21st, 2007 at 5:58 pm
I have had pain like you described for two reasons, both undiagnosed before surgery…endometriosis and torsion omentum. Keep at those doctors because something is going on and it will probably make itself VERY known soon. I wish you luck. I know how frustrating it is not knowing what is wrong.

Laura, kind of concerned about you since we’ve not yet heard from you today. Wondering how you felt over the weekend. Let us know when you can. I’ll keep watching.
