Confession: I am NOT a rocker.

Well, let me tell you all about my fabulous rock and roll life. :-D

For the past week, we have been promoting the shit out of Bangles. Putting flyers everywhere, befriending every Denverite on MySpace who looks remotely like they’re into metal, and check this out – I even got on KBPI the other day and talked on the air to Uncle Nasty about the club for a couple of minutes. That was actually pretty humiliating! While we were talking, I said, “The band we have this week is Diesel,” and the other guy on the show (I can’t remember his name) was all, “Ohhh, are you one of those girls who says everything like a question? ‘The band is DieSEL?’ Is that their name or not? Are you asking us a question or making a statement?” And basically everything I said about the club, the bands, the drink specials, whatever, they made fun of me! Eventually, Uncle Nasty goes, “Um…you’re not a rocker, are you, Laura? We can tell. You need to talk this place up! You need to say It’s all rock and roll! We’re going to have vomit! And naked girls! And you can even make out with me!” And then he goes, “Okay, this is the worst promo we’ve ever done. We’re going to have to do it again, and this time have some more energy, Laura!” Ack!! The pressure! I was like, completely self conscious by that point, so when they did the little intro thing again, I wasn’t sure what to say! So, they did most of the talking – I didn’t get to say too much. You can hear me being a giant douchebag right here! The last 20 or 30 seconds cut off, but I think I caught the jist of it, there.

And, I think a few people heard it, because by that night, we had probably a dozen new friend requests on the MySpace page. Paul called me right after and said he and Mike heard it (and laughed at me, I’m sure!)

So, last night was our 3rd week of doing Back 2 Bangles Rock & Roll night at Cherry Street Live. It really was our best night yet – we had a decent sized crowd – not as many folks as we’d LIKE to have in there, but it was way better than what we saw the first two weeks. The band, Diesel, sounded really good. They had a little following, too, which was fun. Nice guys, too. The drummer works at the Harley shop right down the street from our house and they have a kid a little younger than our girls. His wife was completely adorable and really nice, too. The lead singer guy was cute, and my girlfriends and I were checking him out all night. Lots of fun.

Angie and Janelle showed up, and my favorite Amy was there too, so it was really really fun! I mean, it would have been more fun if we could have heard each other talking (the band was really REALLY loud – which is a good thing for a metal band, right?) I had so much fun hanging out with everyone. And we did a bunch of shots and drank a bunch of beer and today, I’m feeling a whole bunch of shitty! Note to self: you’re not a rocker. You’re a mommy! You have to get up early and take the kids to school and watch Sesame Street and change diapers and make grilled cheese sandwiches and use your sing-songy mommy voice. You shouldn’t be out in a bar, listening to heavy metal and getting drunk on a Wednesday night!

Oh well. I had a lot of fun, and if Paul hadn’t taken his camera with him to work today, I’d post a bunch of pictures for you to see! So, you’ll just have to wait, and then you can see how much fun we had – Paul ran the sound, and it was great – Mike DJd between band sets, and it was great (he even played a Kelly Clarkson song for me at the end of the night. Hee!) The new bartender, Brian, put lots and lots of lemon in my water and was generous when making our drinks, so he was great. The only thing that wasn’t great was that I missed Medium last night. Dammit!

Hey, my friends here in town – come out next week, okay? All righty then.
