‘Bout time to go bra shopping again!

I think I mentioned a few months ago that I had a professional bra fitting, right? It was after the Oprah show about how most women are wearing the wrong size bra. I hadn’t ever had a bra fitting, and after going through two twin pregnancies in the span of a year and a half, well…the girls weren’t lookin’ so hot. I was really inspired after a friend of mine had a fitting not long after having a baby, and posted before and after pictures of herself in the same shirt – one with the old bra, and one with the new, professionally fitted bra. I could not BELIEVE the difference – not only did she look slimmer, but her boobies were downright perky! Not something you see a lot of in women nursing brand new babies. I realized then that a great fitting bra could really change the way I looked in my clothes.

So, I had it in my head that I needed to get a bra fitting, but I had no idea where to go or how to set that up. I know they do it at Victoria’s Secret, but I was really in need of plus size bras, and as everyone knows, it’s no secret that Victoria hates fat girls! I was sort of ranting about this to my mom, and she encouraged me to drop by the store where she works, and reminded me that SHE is a certified bra fitter! Yeah. For real. Penney’s actually sends people to training to become *certified*, and then they get a little gold pin that looks like a bra to put on their nametag. As much fun as it sounded to have my mom wrapping a measuring tape around me with my top off, I decided to have someone else do my fitting. It turned out that I needed to go down a cup size! I told the associate there what I was looking for, and she helped me pick out several great fitting bras. I was really pleased at how much better I looked in my bras that were the exact right size! You know what was so funny, though – on the wall inside the dressing room in the lingerie department, they had framed 8 x 10s of all their certified bra fitters, so I *still* sort of got to share the experience with my mom! The black and white smiling version of her, anyway!!

Now I’m thinking I need to look for some (gulp) teenage bras for the almost-teenager in the house. Several people noticed in the pictures I posted yesterday that my oldest daughter is starting to develop. Wahhhhhh! I want her to stay little and play with Bratz dolls and watch Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends. I’m not ready for the bra wearing years yet! But I have no choice. I think it’s time to move away from the sports bras and find her something in an actual cup size. Sigh!

And it’s time for me to get new bras, too. The ones I bought at Penney’s that day are beginning to look a little ragged. Need to keep those babies hitched up!!

Oh my, is it that time?
I remember we were back to school shopping once and my mom says “Hold your arms up.” so I do, not knowing what she’s up to and WHAM! She puts a bra on me OVER my shirt and goes “Hmmm…it fits.” Just then my brother walked up and goes “HOLY CRAP MOM, that was about the most embarrassing thing I’ve ever seen!” I wanted to die. :|
Thanks for this post!!! I’ve been needing to get myself fitted. I’ve lost 30 pounds and the baby has weaned down a lot, so I think I might be ready for some nice (non nursing!) bras again.

I loathe bra shopping. I would rather chew off my arm.

I took my 11 yr old a month or two ago for *real* bras. OMG the child is wearing the same size bra I was when I graduated highschool!!!
