It’s gloomy and raining here. And it matches my mood. Not that I’m a big sad depressed thing today or anything, but I’m not feeling well. As I whined on a message board a few days ago, I’m sick. I’m sneezy and coughy and full of snot and my head hurts. My mouth hurts where I got a new crown last week. And I started my period a few days ago and I still have cramps. Like I said, if I could get someone to just drop by and kick me in the stomach, pull my hair, and call me names, I think we could call it a day! And also? I’m feeling pretty guilty about Kayley getting hurt.

Yes. Kayley got hurt and I haven’t mentioned it yet. Did you see the picture in my sidebar there of Kayley and her friends on the trampoline? Well, when I glanced outside, that’s what they were doing. Taylor was lying on the tramp looking at clouds, Kayley was sitting criss-cross-applesauce, chatting with everyone, and the other girls were just sort of bobbing around. Evidently a few minutes later, they were all bouncing, and it started to rain out of nowhere, and Kayley fell funny and hurt her foot. She was crying and wouldn’t get up at all, and for a split second, I didn’t know WHAT was wrong with her - she kept saying she couldn’t move and I wasn’t sure if she’d broken her neck or what. It was a scary second. And did I mention it was raining? Not like, “Tut, tut, it looks like rain,” but “Holy shit, it’s raining sideways and I’m being pelted with marble sized hail!” It was a weird, out of nowhere summer storm, and we were right in it while I was dragging Kayley into the house. I had to take her to the ER, where they determined she had a bad sprain, put her in a hard splint, and sent us on our way.

(I do have to give mad props to the hospital, as we were in and out of the ER in under an hour!) Soooo, yeah. A bad sprain; stay off of it for a couple of days, and then see how it goes. Should be good as new before school starts in a week. Troy (K’s dad) decided Friday would be a darned good day to get her back to the doctor just in case she needed to be seen again, as she starts school on Monday. They did another x-ray and guess what? It’s broken. She has a buckle fracture, again, just like she did in her wrist almost exactly three years ago at this time. (I’m sure some of you remember pictures of Kayley holding a newborn Pablo and Mallory with a cast on her arm. She broke her wrist the week before she started 3rd grade.)

I could not feel like more of a heel. I know all about trampoline safety. I seriously thought the girls would be FINE, since they weren’t really jumping, they were just hanging out, sort of chilling there. Hell, how many of us jumped on a trampoline with three friends (and a dog and the sprinkler on underneath; thanks for the visual, Nancy) when we were that age? And I’m worried that once she heals up, she’s never going to want to get on the trampoline again. Kayley’s sort of a fraidy-cat child, and this won’t help things at all. Boooo.

And school is starting on Monday. I keep trying to tell Kayley it’s going to be fun; she’s going to be the popular kid getting all the attention because she’s on crutches - she’s worried about being in a giant, brand new school and being late for her classes. She even had to get a special elevator pass! She’s excited about middle school, but understandably apprehensive as well. We’re going today to buy a backpack, since that’s the only thing she doesn’t have. We even turned her cell phone on again yesterday. Yay!

And Paul’s out in the yard, trying to get the damned barbecue done. Yeah, I’ll be glad to have it done. It just annoys me that these projects take THE ENTIRE SUMMER to complete. You know, like, it was great to have our backyard done in time for our wedding last September, but it sucked that we only had a few weeks to enjoy it before the weather got cold. And that’s the story this year as well. That’s the story of our lives, though - all these kids means we have very little time to do anything. It’s frustrating sometimes!

But! It is what it is, baby. It’s my life and my job to figure out how to deal with it. And you know what? Our first anniversary is September 3rd. Not coincidentally, we’re having a big party to celebrate. Local peeps, be checking your email soon for an invite. Sunday of Labor Day weekend - whether the barbecue is finished or not. Kids welcome (duh.)

Okay, I’m off. I’ve been typing this friggin post all morning! I’ve got the kids all eating lunch right now and then I’m packing them all off for nappies, and then I’m going to jump in the shower and clean up the house and get ready to take Miss K out to buy a backpack. Have a nice weekend!
