I just don’t GET IT?
I have been absolutely inundated with spam comments the past two weeks. I used to get the very occasional spam comment – Akismet within WP caught most of them – now I get probably fifty or more a day in addition to the ones picked up by Aksimet. And since I have my comments set up to where I have to approve them the first time, they don’t actually POST, but I still get notified that I have stupid comments to moderate, and I’m getting a brazillion emails a day because of it. Ugh! I really don’t get it. Nobody ever clicks on those links, right? Why do they keep posting spam comments in blog comments? Is there ANY payoff? Is it just a ploy to annoy people to death?
Anyway. I need to decide whether or not to make it harder to comment here, by doing some sort of captcha thing or requiring people to register to comment or something. But I have no time to research that shit at the moment, so for right now, I just turned off the notification that someone has left a comment that I need to approve. So what that means for you is this: if you’re leaving me a comment for the first time, it probably won’t show up right away. No need to keep resubmitting your comment. I’ll check in a couple of times a day and see if there are actual, legitimate comments in the queue waiting to be posted, and I’ll approve any that aren’t stupid lame spam. Gah!

Me too! I’m still not getting a ton, but it did go up this week. And they always hit my old entries…one in particular.

I’ve been getting more too. It sucks. But at least WP just sends me a notification and I just let them sit there until I delete them. They don’t show up unless I approve them. So far, they’ve caught them all.

Seriously, WTF? The past few days have been crazy. I’m going to try to install Spam Karma 2 and see if that works. Those spambastards.
