Holiday Meme
Saw this at Tale of a Baby Human…Welcome to the 2005 Holiday Edition of Getting to Know Your Friends!
1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate? Yes. Please. More. Both. Thank you!
2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree? Santa just leaves them under the tree, all assembled and set up and ready to go!
3. Colored lights on tree/house or white? Colored – and lots of them! I don’t believe in the whole “less is more” thing at Christmas (uh, or anytime.) More is more!! More lights! More ornaments! More presents!
4. Do you hang mistletoe? No. But I’d kiss you if you were standing under it!
5. When do you put your decorations up? My tradition has generally been the day after Thanksgiving, but it’s been hard to keep up with that in recent years.
6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)? Prime rib. Or, actually, the bleu cheese and walnut spread we usually have at Christmas.
7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child? The year I got the world’s coolest dollhouse. Did anyone else have a Lundby dollhouse with lights and everything? God, they were cool! Kayley has mine now at her dad’s house. We reshingled the roof when she was little.
8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? I know I mentioned this recently…oh yeah, on Aloha Friday. I was pretty young. I think I was about 5 or 6. I fell out of bed on Christmas eve and woke up, about, oh, eleven o’clock or so, and there was a giant stuffed Raggedy Ann and Andy in my room – my Santa gift. I could still hear my parents up downstairs. Well, everyone knows Santa only comes when everyone is sleeping – and for some reason, I had it in my head that he touched the side of his nose and shot back up the chimney like a rocket, and it was magically Christmas morning right when that happened. So, being as it was still night time and people weren’t even in bed, I knew something was up! Later, my sister had me convinced again he was real, when she rearranged my dollhouse while I was at school or something and she convinced me that Santa had come back and set everything up for me. Ha!
9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? We open ALL our gifts on Christmas eve. Just the stockings and other miscellaneous Santa gifts on Christmas day.
10. What kind of cookies does Santa get set out for him? Santa actually prefers fudge.
11. Snow! Love it or Dread it? I think it’s pretty, but I get aggravated having to drive in it. I’m thankful I don’t have to shovel it. I just wish for once we’d have snow on Christmas! That so rarely happens!
12. Can you ice skate? Hell, no.
13. Do you remember your favorite gift? Barbie Dream House, Christmas of 1981. If you’re lucky, I might scan a picture of me with it on Christmas morning.
14. What’s the most important thing about the Holidays for you? Spending time with my family.
15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert? My mom’s fudge, peanut butter balls, hmmm…pumpkin pie…
16. What is your favorite holiday tradition? We need to come up with some traditions now that we are a whole new family. My ex and I used to read Twas the Night Before Christmas every year to Kayley on Christmas eve right before bed, then after K was asleep, we’d go fill her stocking and giggle the whole time.
17. What tops your tree? My topper sucks. I really want a new one!
18. Which do you prefer Giving or Receiving? Giving! Christmas is so much fun with kids. I don’t know who to credit, but the best quote I ever heard about Christmas sums it up perfectly: Christmas and kids are like peanut butter and jelly – they just make each other better!
19. What is your favorite Christmas Carol? Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas. This version is the one that always gets me choked up:
Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas
Let your heart be light.
Next year all our troubles will be out of sight
Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas
Make the Yuletide gay
Next year all our troubles will be miles away
Once again, as in olden days, there’ll be golden days of yore
Faithful friends who were dear to us, will be near to us once more
Someday soon, we all will be together, if the fates allow
Until then, we’ll have to muddle through somehow
So have yourself a Merry Little Christmas now
20. Candy Canes! Yuck or Yum? Yuck.
Now you!
